I'm going to be moving to Raleigh next week (if all goes well) to start my first semester at NC State. I like to spend a good chunk of my free time cycling, especially doing group rides. I know NC State has a cycling club, and I have inquired about that, but I want to get riding as soon as I am moved, and I'd also like to get a feel for some local clubs. I am not quite good enough for a serious race pace, but I would ideally like something in the 18-22mph range.
Does anyone here cycle or know of any local clubs?

There are a few of us on here that cycle.
Cycling Spoken Here in Cary has several group rides per week and I believe Spin Cycle in Cary does as well. On Saturdays, especially during the Spring and Summer, you'll see plenty of people riding out on the secondary roads around the county.
Check out http://www.cyclingspokenhere.com and http://www.thespincycle.com for more information. 12/31/2007 10:01:34 AM |

a guy i work with does the intense rides if you want to join them. they do a mission valley ride on saturday mornings where they meet near sammy's i believe to start. they average over 24 mph including stops and traffic lights...and he's over 50. i think he still holds records in indiana, i can ask him for more groups if you'd like. 12/31/2007 11:35:56 AM |

Drhavoc, Thanks for the links. That is a good starting place!
I am going on a local New Years ride here in Goldsboro tomorrow. I wonder how big the group ride is in Cary? 12/31/2007 2:18:03 PM |

Moody,
I would get dropped like a bad habit on that ride. I've only been riding for almost two months, but I have gotten a lot of saddle time in already. I am a reasonably strong rider, but not for a ride like that, not yet at least.
That'd be awesome if he knew of some other rides! Maybe not quite that intense.
Thanks! 12/31/2007 2:20:36 PM |

Agentlion,
You're awesome, man! Thanks so much. I can't wait to get out and ride in Raleigh. We don't have any hills in Goldsboro, so I can't wait to improve in that area. 12/31/2007 4:58:38 PM |

yeah - that's the December calendar. Each month they publish a calendar with one-time rides at the top (like Centuries or special rides), then standard weekly rides after that. Later in the spring, and especially after daylight savings time is over, there will be even more weekly rides. By late spring, there will be 2-3 rides from various places each weekday, then several rides each weekend 12/31/2007 5:46:29 PM |
