Wanted to get some opnions on what car to get next I will go over the options:

Current FS 1992 nissan sentra SE-R: had it for 3 years and did 6 HPDE in it and had fun. However it was a big lesson learned on modding a car and I want to move on to something else. I got a good deal on a running 240sx

Now the I have the 240sx I am having a change of heart:

pros of the 240: got it cheap, and running, RWD and its in good condition

cons: lacks power would go turbo eventually, spend money on cage/rollbar and suspension
so it looks like its well on its way to becoming a money put

or keep it throw suspension and run it stock

or do I purchase one of the following with the money from selling both cars:

87-93 Foxbody mustang: fast but will have to spend money on suspension, and probably not spend to much money.

2000 Acura Integra LS: Baonest's blue car its already gutted out with a roll cage, and has the suspension I need and I could probably do a Type R swap down the road

what do you guys think?

however i wouldn't mess with doing a b18c5 swap. i'd keep the motor that's in it, build it a little, and put a supercharger on it. you'll get a lot more power throughout the entire rpm band compared to a type-r motor.

All of your choices suck and you should have bought a BMW to begin with if you were planning on being cheap.

A foxbody mustang or integra? Really?

He wants a track car.

None of those are remotely worth tracking out of the box.

Used miata's and BMW's are in the price range of the junk you listed, but happen to be better in everything there's a category for when comparing cars.

Unless you plan on tracking a 1000$ car, which will end up being more of a 5000$ car.

And unless you posted this in a stang forum or honda-tech, you'd get the same exact response.

^^^ Most people who say that fit just fine.

and a Miata would be a sweet track car

out of those 3, stick with the 240sx.

a mustang isnt a ridiculous idea at all.

cheap as dirt, a shit ton of road race tech, cheap aftermarket, easy to work on, lots of stock power, lots of power potential, a shit ton of classes and series to race in, tons of spares available new and junked. a moderately road race prepped mustang can be very fast.

that said, a 240sx is a good car and i about guarantee the motor isnt holding you back. make it safe and start driving. I have two friends who instruct in 240sxs and theyre very fast. that said, i have two friends who instruct in a cavalier and a focus and they're very fast too. you don't need turbos or motor swaps to learn to drive and to get fast.

i agree, don't post serious car stuff here. check out corner-carvers.net for some solid info and advice. also read the NASA and SCCA forums.

if youve got a lot of time and patients, and i mean a lot. then the mustang would be fun.

you will get frustrated with it real easy. it isnt your typical ricer mobile that you can turn on a dime, but lack of power.

its pretty much the opposite.

that said, buy my integra. so i can buy another honda

personally, i would stick with the 240. it sounds like it's a mostly solid car that you got a good deal on. throw a suspension, pads, and wheels/tires on it and go. whenever your budget allows and you get bored, do an sr swap or turbo the ka. rb if you're a true baller.

if money is really your main concern, nothing listed here is going to be any better from that standpoint. the 240 is going to be just as cheap to build as anything else, especially when you're talking about a relatively mild weekend warrior.

Right, like posting on NASA boards isn't going to garner a "get an e30...get a miata" response?

I mean they MIGHT be nicer about it.

since you have seat time, and want a track car, id really suggest building yourself (or buying an almost complete) Lotus Seven kit car. You can build one with a bandsaw, mig welder and tube steel complete for under 5k (all tools included). Or you can buy one sans-engine for as little as 3500-4500 bucks.

You'll need a garage, and its definitely a track car, but a seven can adjust to your experience level for years and years.

I understand why you want to stay away from an E30 or a Miata, but there's gotta be something else besides an Integra LS or a fox body. ESPECIALLY the fox body. give me a break.

Heaven forbid he get advice from people w/ actual track competition experience. theres more to NASA than SpecMiata and SpecE30.

American Iron /American Iron Extreme (AI /AIX)
United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC)
Honda Challenge (HC)
Spec Miata (SM)
Camaro Mustang Challenge (CMC/ CMC2)
Factory Five Challenge (FFR)
Spec Neon (SN)
Performance Touring (PT)
Spec Focus (SF)
Super Touring (ST)
Super Unlimited
GTS Challenge
Endurance Racing
Legends
Thunder Roadsters
SpecE30
944 Challenge (944)

Half of those have many subclasses. Looks pretty diverse tome.

when i first started, i asked the same Q, who the heck would want to race a mustang or any american muscle car.

well after my first track experience i understood why.

hell my van could be a track car

I mean who teaches any of you guys how to debate.

Lets test the theory, have the nig post in NASA HPDE general about the car choices and we'll count the replies.

Hate all you want on an Integra b/c its FWD but its powertrain is rock solid, its a light car, and it handles damn well.

Tegs are awesome. They're pretty much a girl's version of the e30.

Nah, but seriously, they are some of the easiest cars I've ever driven. You can just get in and drive it like you've been in that seat a thousand times.

Adam, you need to decide if you want a time trial car or a street car. you can't really have both.

a time trial car requires (as i'm sure you know) a roll bar, FIA legal seats or nonFIA seats w/ back brace, 6pt harnesses, and extinguisher. Plus it'd likely be stripped to be competitive. That stuff just isnt street friendly.

If you settle on a dedicated track/race car instead of a weekend/fun car, you need to think about things like its classing (does it have a home? is it competitive there? can i afford to run there? will it last? can i find a used built car?) instead of "is it pretty and fast out of the box?".

For an example, an EVO would be a great fun car. its "pretty" and fast and fun and easy to drive right out of the box. itd make a crappy race car because its expensive and would be expensive to race and it doesnt have a real home class wise. On the opposite end of the spectrum... hrmm SpecNeon or SpecFocus or dare i say SpecE30. cheap cars, cheap to maintain, great class to race in, etc. But as a weekend/fun car, theyd probably be slow and boring and ugly and uncool.

If i were you, i'd keep the 240sx and do HPDEs as you build it. As it becomes a worse and worse street car, you'll be getting closer and closer to doing TTs, etc and then you can decide where you want to go w/ it.

i think when he says track car, he means weekend racer.

something that he can most def. have. but yeah its not going to be 100% efficient.

something you can rag on the track and still drive to and from work.
