The following special topics course is on supermath,
MA591S (Dr. Fulp)
Supermath has been used by theoretical physicists for about 50 years but the mathematical underpinnings are not well established (IMHO). Anyway, this course will give you a gentle introduction concepts such as anticommuting variables, graded derivatives, possibly Berezin integration (ask Dr. Fulp about that one) and so on... I believe this time the course will be more like a calculus course and less like an analysis course.
The mathematics is useful for describing supersymmetry and also the path integral formalism in quantum field theory. Basically supermath has been widely applied in modern physics so if you are interested in modern theoretical physics this would be a good resource to add to your arsenal. In addition for the student of pure math it provides many interesting questions and challenges.
It will be the third offering of the course.
If you are at all interested please sign up now. If you don't I suspect the course is in danger. 1/2/2008 2:41:20 PM |

Not dead yet... Join us.
By the way, don't be too scared by the 500-level status, it's harmless.
Feel free to PM me for more details. 1/3/2008 9:05:37 PM |

i think the fact that it's called 'Supermath' is more intimidating than the 500-level status 1/3/2008 9:36:37 PM |

Well, in the yellow sun of earth it is not that difficult.
Anyway titles can be decieving, there are other courses on "algebra" which are far more difficult... 1/3/2008 9:57:58 PM |
