I'm trying to fix a compaq desktop (sr1030nx) for someone. The computer likes to randomly freeze and is exactly described by this post: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Misc/Q_21990086.html
Only difference is that I'm using a Linksys wireless card. I've ran memtest, restored from recovery partition, and updated drivers and software. I haven't dual-booted though. Does TWW have anything to try?

It looks like you've been quite exaustive with your troubleshooting. Nothing comes to mind that you haven't looked into. I'll have to think on this one.

What is the motherboard and what chipset does it use?

According to http://hardware.earthweb.com/computers/article.php/11056_3359351_2, it's got a VIA KM400 chipset. I'm about to boot it to verify.

On another note, I tried unsuccessfully to run it with another video card. Didn't spend much time the first time through so I'm about to try that again. It also has had the power supply replaced. First one burned up. Freezing was present before PS swap.

Make sure your chipset drivers are up-todate and try disabling the onboard NIC in the BIOS since you're not using it.

All drivers I could find are current. I just booted the computer and downloaded CPU-z to check a few things and walked away for about 25 minutes. Came back to a frozen computer download had completed but nothing responds. Also of interest, wireless card isn't installed right now- using wired. The wireless card is running fine in a new computer I built for them to replace this busted system.

^ Sounds like your problem isn't the wireless then. Maybe it's the motherboard.

After having Knoppix freeze on me, I'm going to go with the motherboard being the problem also. BIOS doesn't seem to have a good way to disable onboard video and just use the AGP slot, so I can't really test it like I want to. A new mobo for a computer like this should be pretty cheap, so I'll see if they want to go that route.

Thanks for the help.
