I was just told about Utorrent and iso hunt to be able to download TV shows on to my computer. I just downloaded the first two Dexter Season Two shows and in trying to play them , (they are an avi. file format Dexter.S02E01.HDTV.XviD-XOR.avi
When I try and play it in media player all I get is sound and no picture. The picture is just a blob of a circle with lines moving around. Is there some update that I need for media player or real player to be able to play these shows?
Thanks 1/3/2008 4:06:38 PM |

Hey, thanks, that worked out great.
One other question, when I downloaded the second episode I got it in the following file format,
Dexter.S02E02.PREAIR.DVDRip.XviD-SiTV
when i try and view that one nothing works, did I not get the whole file or should I just download it again.
Thanks for the help.

fuck xvid fuck ffdshow.
get divx > http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/download/index.php
During the install make sure you choose not to install the divx player or whatever toolbar it comes with now. Installing the webplayer isn't a bad idea though its pretty nice.
and even though the audio works fine, you might as well get ac3 filter as well > http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=ac3filter&filename=ac3filter_1_46.exe&use_mirror=superb-east 1/3/2008 4:20:43 PM |

sorry new to all of this. I think it has something to do with the preair in the file name. When I go to open it or watch it like I would do with the first show it is not an individual show, it is in another whole file folder itself with a bunch of little files with in the folder.
something like this dexter.202.preair.dvdrip.xvid-sitv.r01
there are 23 of those type files and then two other files one ending in .rar and one in .sfv.
If I am way off no problem I will just try and down load a new show in a different format, but if this is watchable any help on how would be great.
Thanks for the help. 1/3/2008 4:25:30 PM |

they rar'ed the files up. The video file gets split into the 23-24 rar files you have.
get http://www.rarsoft.com/download.htm
and then right click on the .rar and extract it. The sfv is supposed to contain checksum data iirc in order to make sure the files are all together.
Why people still insist on splitting files they put into torrents i have no idea. On news groups it makes sense, but it just gets redundant everywhere else. 1/3/2008 4:28:34 PM |

He probably got it from a website that only releases 'scene' shit, which has to be compressed, with nfo and sfv. 1/3/2008 4:31:47 PM |

or download 7-zip (it opens RAR files and is free): http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
and yes, i'll second k-lite mega codec pack (WMP classic over VLC any day): http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm
oh, and dexter FTW...love that show 1/3/2008 4:33:07 PM |
