i like how he starts with
Quote : | "Being a programmer and the only computer literate person in my family..." |
and ends with
Quote : | "...My dad, a programmer, lent him an unfortunately titled book called "Teach Yourself Java in 24 hours"." |

By dad has a Masters degree in Networking and a statewide network but he is pretty lost when it comes to doing anything beyond the basics on his home PC. 1/5/2008 4:21:12 AM |

computer hardware is something you pay low-level functionaries to learn about 1/5/2008 4:34:13 AM |

My uncle has a degree in Computer Science from State but since he moved to management for some time now, after years of programming, has almost totally forgot how to program. I don't think he totally forgot his fundementals but he admits that programming has changed a lot in comparison to when he did it.
He also emails me all the time asking me if I know about certain programs and stuff on the web.
We as programmers now will be obsolete some day and will be forced to learn the new technologies or get stuck buying crappy pre-packaged computers. 1/7/2008 9:22:01 AM |

I also agree with everyone's assessment. You can have a tech based job and still be computer illiterate or non-savvy about computers. One of my dad's friend used to program the Navy's old punch card system, but doesn't know an ounce about today's computers.1/7/2008 10:56:19 PM |
