I am going on a mission trip in July and several of my family members have expressed a desire to help support this trip. What I'd like to do is set up some kind of paypal account with my savings account, so that any money deposited will go there. I can keep up with the total deposited and it will earn interest. That way, people who want to help can just go online to contribute- even a dollar if they want. Then before the trip I can withdraw the money to pay for materials we'll need teaching vacation bible school there, our plane tickets to get there, etc.
Is it even possible to do this? How would I start it? And how would I get the word out- is there a link to send to people so they can click on it and transfer if they want? All I really know is my general thinking about this, I don't know how to make it work. If anyone can answer any questions or provide better suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

couldn't they simply wire money directly to your bank?

seems like that would require a lot less overhead

I didn't know that...

I'm going to get pictures from the trip last year and create a website. How would I make a link to donating money on the website? I'm clueless here.

I've been to the website and have looked through the help section. I just wanted to know if anyone here had experience with anything similar and could help me.
thanks.

^get out of here,

if you start a paypal account it will charge you 2.9%, so just let you people know that,

what i'd do is start a small simple website, with info about what you're doing and put a link there so people can donate to you,
also i'd tell them if they can send a check that would be preferable as there are no transaction fees
but thats not always possible and people can use their credit cards with paypal to donate to you if they dont have $$

Okay- here's what I've done so far... I created a freewebs website and made a page for donations. On the page I said what donations were for and created a link (thanks to Str8BacardiL) for my paypal account. So if people use that button, will the donation go into the paypal account or into the bank account I have tied to it? Just making sure I'm on the right track...

and were ^you saying I need to let other people know they will have a fee? Or will it come from the money donated? Thanks!

it will come out of your money, but if they know there's a fee maybe they'll donate a little more

anyways the money goes into your paypal accoutn then you login & tranfer it to your bank account

are you spreading the word of the prophet Christ or viral cult of Christianity? I'd be likely to support the former

i've even had like 2 wolfwebbers i dont know very well tell me they knew you in real life and you were chill as shit, and i've been like oh i've seen him post but havent met him, but i always thought he was a pretty chill guy(no homo of course)

but seriously, this is lounge, and probably like the worst thread in the lounge for bogus comments

Unless things have changed, this is only if you have a business/enterprise account. If you have a personal account, there is no fee.

I can help you do this. I run an eBay powerseller business and have been doing some high dollar paypal business banking for years. Note that a money market account is the only way you'll earn "interest" as paypal does more of a checking account (debit card is mailed to you for daily use but all checks are eChecks) However, your family/friends can simply email you money through paypal and they don't have to expose their financial information online. So, paypal is certainly the ideal service for this job. PM me and let me know where you are at/what help you need.

you need to set your account up as a nonprofit since this is a volunteer mission trip for several reasons:

1) you can get a much better rate from paypal as a nonprofit
2) you wont have to pay income tax on the money people donate (which right now you will)
3) any money you spend yourself can be put to the the nonprofit and is tax deductible.

all I did was take my personal account and create a "donate now" button- then I inserted it into my website.
once people donate money, won't it go to money received in paypal, and I can transfer it online to my account?
confused.
