bravo on that trailer.
i LOLd at the little kid and the doughtnut
and was at the pack of runners leaving the belltower. didn't get to see all that as i started at the front of the pack
and got goosebumps from watching.

is it illegal to basically crunch up the doughnuts and get most of the glaze off of them before you eat? i would think the glaze is the heaviest part, without that it's just bread and some oil...

I don't think you can really prevent some of the glaze from coming off because it's on there so thick and usually hard, so it just crumbles off when people mash them up.

Nice... I wonder how many people there will be able to get up early enough for this on a Saturday morning J/K... let me know if it goes there, I'll be glad to do it in two cities! Even better... take it to Wilmington so I have a good excuse for a trip to the beach!

^^ The "eating donuts" part is what got me interested in the event. They say you don't have to eat them if you don't want. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are promoting obesity--- its not like eating 12 donuts all that much different than drinking 12 beers in terms of your health and plenty of students do that every weekend. The website for the event makes it perfectly clear exactly how many calories, fats, carbs, etc you are consuming.

There is a schedule up on the website:

Plan on getting to the belltower at around 8:30 8:45, especially if you want a good place in line. 1600+ people in line is one long line.

Check the brickyard this week to pick up your race number and t-shirt early, if not, come earlier to the belltower to check in.

There will be some short opening remarks starting at around 8:55am, and we are going to start the race asap after that, between 9 and 9:10am.

I know that wasn't really thought out, but I think it deserves a retort. I spent an evening at the NC Children's Hospital a few months ago supporting the yearly radio/telethon. My younger sister's best friend was a patient there just a year ago and we lost her to double lung cancer at 19 only weeks later. Seeing the work that's done there - and the families affected by it - will change your life. So many of the patients are being treated for awful diseases beyond their control (like cancer) - so leave it alone and make a nice donation why don't ya?

man after watching the videos that looks like a whole lot of fun... and i never really discovered the joy that is the HOT LIGHT at krispy kreme until i got to greensboro. you should try branching out next year and get different cities in the area involved. i dont know if they have a KK near UNCG, but there's one up near my house, and there are a bunch of 20somethings in my area that would enjoy something like that. shit i'll be a 30something later this year

i picked up my shit at 1:30 and it was like a 30 second wait

ok got a quick question for those that have done it? how is the terrain? i figure its fairly flat, just wondering if there are any hills...when i run at lake johnson i try to do the hills first cause after that its fairly flat...just wondering if i should go full speed at the start or go kinda easy and prepare for some hills that may come

also, i know a couple calf stretches but my calfs are seriously hurting right now...ran a full lap at lake johnson yesterday with my dog, and walked today with my dog...anyone know what i should do? how long i should stretch, etc...and will taking a bunch of protein help speed them up?

i thought about it...4 miles in an hour is like a somewhat slow walk speed for me...if i jog and get there in say 22 minutes, and takes me 8 minutes to eat 12 donuts, that gives me 30 minutes to get back...i dont think this will be that hard...kinda wish i woulda signed up as a challenger rather than casual

I've never run more than 2 miles in sub 50 degree temperatures. Any tips?

You won't feel the cold after you move around and break a sweat. Just keep moving. Before you know it, you will be thinking more about the doughnuts than the temperature. Consider going for a little warm up jog before the race.

People think that cold temperatures make running outdoors torture, but really it's just a matter of moving. I"ve been out this week at 6am in shorts and been fine. The only thing that doesn't fair well for me is my hands. They get frosty really quick if I don't wear gloves.

you def realize there's a downhill on the way to the store, and you definitely feel it coming from glenwood on the way back. if you're running it (actually physically running) you'll pass a lot of people who either walked the challenge or had to walk due to fatigue.

your legs won't feel cold in sub 50 temps, your upper body will. especially your hands. i always wore gloves before i wore pants. but you're not gonna want gloves with KK doughtnuts
my temp rules
below 55 - add a long sleeved shirt
below 40 - add gloves
below 30 - add pants

anyone got some tips for calf stretching? mine are seriously in pain..i've stretched them a few times today doing the stretches i know but they still hurt like a bia...


oh and how are we supposed to attach our race number? just get some string an put it through the small holes or is there a more simpler way i'm overlooking?
