80% for music. I want to be able to easily access all my mp3s on my home stereo. I guess a really long RCA cable from my computer upstairs to my living room stereo could work.. but yeh.
the network!
A device like the Slim Devices SqueezBox looks damn good. but a little pricey at $300 for a music-only solution.
I've been reading a little about Xbox360 and PS3's media streaming. That might be ok and the PS3 would double as a bluray player.. but still not cheap and i'm not sure what formats they support. no lossless i think. All my lossless is in Apple Lossless to fit in w/ itunes nicely. The non lossless is 99% mp3, so that might be ok i guess. I'd really like to stream the lossless "archive" for home though.
Speaking of Apple, iTV? wtf does this even do? talk about cryptic advertising.
What about a little linux PC doing something? That might be cheapest of all. Is there any slick software out there? i saw soemthign a few weeks ago you guys were nutting over. Maybe that'd work. What kind of audio/video interface could it use though? Anything cards w/ an HDMI ouput? I should look more into this.
Any ideas? 1/10/2008 6:18:08 PM |
