how do you know what you need ? my light came on in my car saying I had brake wear. months later i'm now hearing a grinding noise.

i call a repair shop and tell them and the guy is like "On a luxury car you just don't change the pads. if someone does that then you just got a sh!tty brake job. you need to replace the rotors and pads and it's about $650/bucks for one set. the rear brakes would be about $50 bucks more".

how do I know if I need both the front and rear done or is this just bullsh!t so this guy can make more money. the dealerships says its about $1000/bucks and that's bullsh!t. total bullsh!t.

Well, wrong place...

Second...if your wear light came on, it was a pretty good indication you should at least change your pads. Some cars do have already thin rotors that go out of spec with one set of pads (BMWs are notorious for this). Since you've let it get to the point of rivets, you've pretty much screwed yourself.

it's crazy that my $4k saturn and my $5k mustang both lasted forever on their rotors, but "high-end" cars would crap out more often and cost more to fix

i can change both sets of brakes (using ceramic pads) and get my rotors turned for less than $150

haha

Not unheard of if you're paying the dealership to install them. A friend of mine paid like $700 for new pads/rotors on his Ford SportTrack so I can only imagine with BMW or Mercedes would charge

also, check on prices for rotors yourself online. most can be had for under $200 a set these days, many times much less. I think I paid around $100 for the last set I bought for a corvette... they've came down drastically in price the last few years

we need to know more about the car... as in, what make/model/year?

On some cars, replacing all pads/rotors, including labor cost.. that isn't a bad cost. On some cars though that's just ridiculous. Is that cost for replacing all 4 rotors or just the front or rear?

seriously. is not answering the model/year question reasonable when expecting people to give you a realistic and honest answer?

To find out how reasonable it is, call some parts stores and ask them what rotors cost for your model/year of vehicle.

How can one be so clueless, and yet amass enough money to even own a luxury car. I'm dumbstruck

pretty easy for a lot of people in IT/networking fields. they have other areas of expertise. this guy is obviously fake so it doesn't count but i've met a lot of really smart people that couldn't change a tire if their life depended on it
