so I told my girl (she likes when people make a big deal about her birthday) that for the next ten days i would get her something each day. Now we have only been together for a little over five months so I don't want to spend a whole lot but I need ideas as to what to get her. I just one something with for each day with the theme of the number, i.e. day one is one long stem rose, day two could be a pair of those stupid socks with the individual toes, day four could be a four legged stuffed animal (she likes dogs).
I need ideas though. 1/17/2008 3:13:45 AM |

I would skip the whole theme of the number thing. That would make it too hard, and doesn't really enhance the gift or lead to additional thoughtfulness. Just try to think of something that is meaningful to her or between the two of you. Her favorite flower, a picture of the two of you, a poem, movie tickets, etc. Also, make sure that her "main gift" is the last one and that it is better than the rest. Let us know how it works out. 1/17/2008 3:17:48 AM |

hmmm, you make a good point mdbncsu, thanks. risk getting her a crappy gift to keep up a theme, or get her something that I am sure she will enjoy?
I will pontificate on this. (I used a big word...I must be smart) haha 1/17/2008 3:27:22 AM |

or leave her notes of hints leading up to it
or leave petals everyday, with a bouquet or dozen next her gift on the big day
or leave teh petals everyday, then a sigle flower w/ directions to whereever you are w/ a bouquet and gift (like at a resturant, etc). 1/17/2008 3:32:09 AM |

yeah, no offense man, but doing something this big, after only having been together for 5 months, isn't a really smart idea.

this doesn't mean you have to do an extravagant event, just buy her flowers and take her out to a fancy dinner, thats all you need to do.

I say kudos. Good for you for being romantic and caring about her and her birthday instead of just taking her out to dinner.
I would suggest maybe getting her a live plant on the first day, and then maybe 10 roses at dinner on her birthday on the last.... or a party with 10 friends?? But then, I like potted plants 1/17/2008 9:25:04 AM |

Maybe she's turning...oh wait, it's not chitchat.
Anyway, gonna have to go with the guys here. Nice idea but way too early in the relationship.
But, since you set yourself up for it, short books of poetry with ones you like highlighted are nice - e. e. cummings has some appropriate ones. Also, you can do things related to the first time you met and your first date, first kiss, etc.1/17/2008 10:25:42 AM |

You can do something that kind of works up to what you're planning to do on the actual birthday. Like, if you're taking her to a movie/dinner... Day 1: One movie ticket Day 2: Second movie ticket Day 3: Gift certificate for popcorn/drinks Day 4: Print out of reservations at the restaurant you're going to. Day 5: $20 gift card to said location Day 6: Another gift card to cover the cost of the meal
For the rest of the days, pick up small things she can wear or bring on the actual date. Like a pair of cheaper earrings ($5), a cheaper, but nice, necklace ($5-$10), a inexpensive bouquet of flowers the day before.
This way, you are getting her something every day, but it's something you'll be paying for on the date anyways. 1/17/2008 10:33:05 AM |

Day 7: Seven inch dildo
I'd normally say I would be kidding, but seriously, some people like this sort of thing... a lot.
But uhh, in reference to him setting the bar high, I guess it all depends on his financial situation and stuff. I personally have found that I've always spent about the same amount of money on stuff for my girlfriend as time goes on. Occasionally I'll get her something nicer than that, but doing ten things could add up to be like 40 or 50 bucks... a lot considering the time they've dated but only a lot to some people. I mean... I guess how much money you spend on something and whether it's a lot is relative to how much you have.
Sooo, bigstallion if youre rich and this is nothing, go for it... but while you're out shopping, mind buying me a copy of Bioshock for 360? 1/17/2008 10:51:04 AM |

If you're dead set on this 10 days thing (and as a girl, I do think it's totally sweet, but also a little overboard), then don't concentrate on getting something for her each day. Just do something you know she'd enjoy and you wouldn't normally do otherwise. Well, one day you should watch her favorite movie with her, no matter how cheesy or girly. And you're not allowed to complain. Another day, make cookies or something - slice and bake are totally acceptable. Bonus for shaping the dough into her name or a heart or something. Give her a 30 minute backrub. Maybe wash her car or fold her laundry, or make her a cute card every day off your computer. 1/17/2008 12:47:37 PM |

The 10 days thing is kind of weird since you've only been dating for 5 months, it seems like what someone desperate to win someone back would do.
You could get her tickets different events around town (hockey games, concerts, etc.) as part of a day's gift. 1/17/2008 1:16:54 PM |

i vote for handmade stuff... the absolute best christmas present i ever received was something my boyfriend made me this year. i mentioned a few weeks earlier that there was a neat bookshelf i saw on a d.i.y. website that matched the decor in my office, and asked him if i bought the stuff if he'd build it. he was like, "ok, we'll see after christmas when we have time to work on it." so christmas came, and he brought out the EXACT bookshelf i was talking about - even better than the original plans, which he never even saw. he burned "i love you" and the date and signed one of the shelves, and i couldn't stop crying, and that means a lot because i fucking hate romantic comedies and consider flowers the stupidest, most pointless gift in the world. if you can make something she'll actually use, that would be the coolest gift (in my opinion)!

and LOL that she likes it when people make a "big deal" out of her birthday
