So I have Toshiba HDTV, MD30H82. I know it has a ATSC/QAM digital tuner and from my research I thought that meant I could pick up HD channels, but I can't figure it out. I have NTC cable and they do have HD channels. So do I need something else to get HD channels or should the ATSC/QAM tuner be all that I need? 1/18/2008 5:04:18 PM |

if you mean HD channels through your cable provider, you have to pay for the service first and you probably will need a set-top box too because i think they're encrypted.
However with a ATSC/QAM tuner you can just buy a over the air HD TV antenna and get the free HD channels. 1/18/2008 5:07:10 PM |

Thanks, but I don't think a box is required because other people in my apartment complex (University Suites) have the HD channels, but no box. 1/18/2008 5:11:23 PM |

I know, thanks for the antenna, I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas, since the one person I know that does get the HD channels doesn't have an antenna either. 1/18/2008 5:17:53 PM |

Did you have it scan for all the digital channels. 1/18/2008 5:28:05 PM |

look for the station that WRAL is on
try tuning your tv to whatever that channel is, but add -1 to it
like for instance, on time warner, WRAL HD is 5-1. 1/18/2008 5:29:10 PM |

^^I don't know exactly how to scan for all digital channels, I assumed it did it automatically when I auto programmed it.
^I'll try that.
When I try the 5-1 thing, it says "Digital signal strength too low".

It doesn't generally work like that if you're pulling it from the cable line coming into your house. Assuming you can get it, the only way you'd be able to figure it out is to just run a channel scan.1/19/2008 1:35:36 PM |
