I saw about a year or so ago that there was a posting where you could get a pretty decent amount of money for doing some clinical tests with AAI or AAC (or something similar) in Chapel Hill where they were testing the effectiveness of generic drugs.

I was wondering if anyone knew the website or if they were still doing the study.

"INFORMATIONAL: Healthy Participants 18-44 Needed for study of Muscle and Jaw Function

submitted by Oppera on Tuesday, October 16 at 12:45 PM

The UNC Center for Neurosensory Disorders is conducting a research study investigating the biological, psychological, and genetic factors that may cause Temporomandibular Muscle and Joint Disorder (TMJD). We are looking for healthy volunteers and people with TMJD to participate.

Participation will include 1 clinic appointment lasting 3 hours. During that time participants fill out various questionnaires and receive a clinical exam and sensory testing. Individuals who meet the study criteria will complete brief health updates for the next 4-5 years.
You must be between the ages of 18 and 44, and not have diabetes, epilepsy, hyperthyroidism, drug or alcohol abuse, chronic respiratory diseases, high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney failure and have not required hospitalization for a psychiatric disorder within the last 6 months.
You should not participate if you are pregnant, nursing a baby, currently involved in orthodontic treatment, chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
People who complete all data collection aspects will be paid $260 (this includes $90 for the clinic appointment mentioned above).
For more information about the study, visit the website at http://www.oppera.org
Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about our study (Biomedical IRB number 05-DENT-777).
If interested or for further information please contact: (919) 966-1060
Approved by the Biomedical IRB

This email is sponsored by: The Center for Neurosensory Disorders"

fromt he main tww page.

those AAI clinics arent hard to get a hold of. if you are on the mailing list you should get mail like 5 times a week about new studies. ill try to post them up in here.

ive had few people i know go through with them, and some ehh, dont even risk it.

you have to goto do some sort of physical type thing so you are in good health, which costs them a pretty penny and thats why they want you to be serious bout these studies

[Edited on January 22, 2008 at 9:14 AM. Reason : the latest email from them should have been Jan. 17th]

im betting this one has a drug where they have limited or no knowledge of side effects, as it pays so much for such relatively short amount of time

though those 52 blood draws add up quickly, especially when you get a newer nurse from them

are you kidding? you've gotta be a crackhead to be a fucking lab monkey to begin with... and you're talking about being forced to stay away from proven, safe medications and swapping them for mystery pills from the wizard of oz. not to mention looking like a damned heroin addict with a bruised up arm. haha

this really is the kind of "job" for a crackhead. or at least someone with a crackhead mentality, since obviously real crackheads cant get in.

you guys have fun with your 4000 bucks, i'm gonna keep on working and take my damn advil gelcaps when i wake up with a sore neck... and take my sinus medication when my nose gets stopped up and my ears start popping.... and you know, go to the doctor when i get sick and take the prescriptions. shit like that. yeah.

oh they explain the drugs to you in detail from what ive heard.

thats why lots of people end up not doing their study because they goto the meeting and they tell you the side effects. and unless you are strapped for cash, you will drop out.

this is something decent or a college kid. i know a few people that have gone through college with doing these studies, not paying all the tuition and stuff, but surviving without complaint.

some of the medication is FDA approved, whatever..

most of it isnt.

but yeah like you said, lab rats

I did studies at AAI for three years. The money was awesome. The best one I did was for a muscle relaxer *thumbs up*

i did them when i was between jobs waiting to move...

did three all together i think

they "say" that all the drugs they test are just generic versions of the name brand versions and that they are simply testing absorption rate changes between the two if any...

i dont know if that's true, but that's what they say...most of the time the drugs i did within the trials were fairly innocuous if they did or were what the people said they were

i guess i cant knock it cause they gotta test it on humans somehow

i just took offense to the term crackhead being used to describe people who wouldnt give up their otc meds and coffee as opposed to the people who sell their bodies to the vampires

My uncle has done similar stuff for Scintipharma, a company in Kentucky. The money has been pretty damn good and he helps manage some of the experiments now. I'd be really interested in this if I could get on the mailing list.

I have to imagine that if they were going to do that many blood draws over a months span they would just put a catheter in, at least for the confinement periods.

Why would that be unreasonable if you're going to do a bunch of blood draws on a given day or two? I know they wouldn't do it over a long period of time because of infection, but why not over a very short period of time?

the only problem with the more expensive ones is that you'll stay there longer.

thats 3 different 6 days stays.

thats like 3 weeks.

the cheaper ones are just a few days total.

if you've got the time, then yea go for the $$$ ones.
