If you were to purchase a messenger bag, which brand you get? $200 is approximately the price limit. I want something durable that will last many years. Timbuktu? Tumi? Keen? Osprey? Other? 1/28/2008 4:17:15 PM |

Get a leather one for sure. (My vote goes for Fossil... but I don't really know the brands you listed very well)
www.fossil.com
Top 3 (IMO): 1. Graham Messenger 2. Dakota Messenger 3. Clapton Messenger
www.wilsonsleather.com Also, I love my leather jacket from Wilson's leather. I've had it for atleast 8 years now, and it still looks great. Wilson's is having a "Final Clearance Sale" right now, so you could probably get a really nice leather messenger for a great price. After a quick glance online, it looks like they're averaging about $60 for $100-$150 bags.

It's not a murse if you sling it over your head. Only if you carry it on one shoulder.
And there is a big difference between cyclist messenger bags and your typical bookbag messenger bags. A cyclists one will sit really low and wrap part of the way around your hips so that it actually stays put when you're cranking on a bicycle. The ones like alibaby posted will not stay on your back when you're on a bike. They will slide around to the front and be in the way of your legs. Just an FYI if you're considering something for bicycling.

patagonia makes a really nice bag imo
two sizes i think
and if it breaks or gets wornout, send it back and you'll get a new one (95% of the time, or they'll repair it, but ive never had them do that)
that's actually with all patagonia products, and most people dont know that 1/28/2008 9:55:29 PM |

i got a custom timbuk2 messenger bag
i LOVE it-- pretty much the best purchase in the last 12 months
i use it at work and get tons of compliments (mostly on my color combo-- it stands out in its own way-- can't get too crazy in corporate america)
i got the extra padded strap on for it and it makes a huge difference, no matter how much shit i have packed in the bag it sits comfortably on my shoulder 1/29/2008 1:35:59 AM |

J.Crew makes a great messenger bag, if you are willing to pay a little bit. I got mine a few Christmases ago and its a great for a carry-on bag or overnight trips.

Messenger bags will mess up your back. It's not the weight that does it, it's the imbalance. Use a wheeled airport luggage thing, there are some really light ones. 3/1/2009 12:38:00 AM |

So i'm looking for a bag to replace my large back pack that i carry to school. I also want to be able to carry it around while hanging out and not be too obtrusive. Been looking at timbuk2 and mountain hardwear bags. Stuck between these two:
http://www.rei.com/product/772295
http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/laptop/laptop-messenger-style/commute-slim
Anyone have any experience with these? Everyone tells me to go timbuk2.
^i agree for larger bags. I'm not trying to carry that much. I have a 10" netbook and maybe some books. 3/1/2009 2:59:02 AM |
Seotaji All American 34244 Posts user info edit post |
i've got both. the mountain hardware is good if you carry a lot of shit and have to have it attached to your bag as it has a lot of nooks and crannys that the other bag doesn't.
the timbuk2 bag fit some stuff, your laptop, and some other crap.
i've had the timbuk2 bag for a decade now and it's never let me down. the mountain hardware bag is a recent addition so the jury is still out. nothing bad about it. quality is good.
i will say this, if you are a simple person who doesn't need a lot of bullshit and is looking for a bag that is functional without being complicated, the timbuk2 bag is your best bet. 3/1/2009 4:25:09 AM |
