we have an oldschool Mitsubishi 65", similar model, 1080i too

ANd I can vouch, it looks fucking AMAZING. Hands down better than any LCD ive ever seen and comparable to most 1080p plasmas.

But, we payed 450 for it, so I dont know how much more you are expecting

weight has zero to do with picture quality and value- It actually only weighs about 100lbs more than my plasma did-

I have seen people selling this same set today in the $1500 range for the 65" screen size- Not saying that is what I expect but certainly clarifying that $300 is a far cry off... You would have a tough time buying a 32" CRT HDTV for that price range.

This television has better picture quality both in standard definition (not pixelly and blurred) and high definition that damn near any set I have seen at CC or BB- research the tv, check reviews, and then bid-

fyi- this is not really an "old school" tv- Less than 4 years old and in absolutely "like new" condition- Not a single scratch, dent, or ding, whatsoever-

I have this set as well. I paid around $2500 for it when I purchased it from Now a few years ago. I am still VERY happy with the picture quality of this set, and have no real desire to go with an LCD or plasma anytime soon. Its a GREAT set, and Mitsu is very high quality.

i was saying its going to be harder to get what you want for it, do to its size, not everyone has a vehicle large enough to transport it, and those that dont arent usually as willing to pay "what its worth" when they also have to arrange for how to move it

^^^Its actually not that tough to move- reason being: The tv splits into 2 pieces- The base unit seperates from the screen so that there are 2 smaller parts to move making it much easier to use large suv or small truck

^no hdmi- has dvi, component, s-video, rca, coax- no 720 display- ONly 480 and 1080

no particular reason other than it is a little big for my entertainment room.... I sold a plasma I had with anticipation of getting an HD Projector to replace it- I didn't find the right projector i wanted and superbowl was closely approaching hence I purchased this big ass tv for the game.

It's a great set just not really what I want up here right now.... still want to get a new projector-

Just curious- we bought a new house- and ahve the equipment from our old theater room (which included a projector)...we don't particularly need the TV- but I could definitely let my husband put it in the "man pit" as an additional TV.

no it isn't... (although i appreciate the post) 1080i and 720p are very similar resolutions and identical to the regular viewer, however 1080i is considered to be slightly better as the amount of lines-

1080i = 1080 lines interlaced

720p= 720 lines progressive scan

The difference also depends on the type of picture that you are watching. 720p is generally better for sports and video games and 1080i is better for slower paced video like documentaries and sitcoms. There really is a noticable difference when comparing the two on different types of video.

anyone can google search the 2 formats and find months worth of reading and comparisons- Fact of the matter is that to your average individual there is little difference- Progressive scan is better for sports and when comparing 1080p to 1080i you will notice a big difference.

Either way 1080i has been accepted as the better of the two by manufacturers....

you said people are getting 1500 for these. ahahaha, that is just bs. and if people pay that they are stupid. you can buy a 42'' 1080p LCD for under 1000. and there is not way that this PROJECTION tv even can come close to a 1080p LCD in picture quality. projection tv is inherently shitty compared to LCD or PLASMA. decreased viewing angle... not as bright... heavier.. more heat..more power...
its outdated technology. unless you get DLP, which i still think is not as good as LCD.

and greeches 1080i is NOT 720p
i takes 2 "swoops" to display 1 image (draws every second line)
p only takes 1 (draws every line)

i know right... Moral of the story- Who the fuck is comparing a 42"LCD to a 65" RP ?

That is like comparing a a honda civic to a chevy suburban-

the screen size on this 65" completely dwarfs a little 42" not to mention that the audio quality is far better-
