^I should have known better after what I have seen twice in Euro Cup with Turkey and after watching Chili win a game in injury time. There have been some wild finishes everywhere in the world this week. btw, I saw Australia lost 1-0 at home to China. LMAO! I would love it if they would fail to get to the World Cup after ditching the OFC just so they could be in a confederation with multiple World Cup spots.

as far as i know, the top 2 in each group move onto a group of 6 who play next year like a mini league with the top 3 moving onto the world cup

The top two teams from the group advance to the finals, which consists of six teams. The top three teams from the final group advance to the World Cup and the fourth-place team will play the fifth-place team from South America for a spot in the World Cup.

WOW! Haiti advanced 1-0 on an own goal in the second leg. They just showed the highlights and it was the perfect header off a corner kick, if he had been playing for Haiti. El Salvador also got their second goal on a PK and the final goal on a free kick. That was one hell of a choke job by Panama in the last 20 minutes.

Here is a photo of the holder my dad helped me make for my 1930 FIFA World Cup collectors medals. Both medals are the same, so it's displaying a different side on each. The one on the right is a picture of the stadium and the one on the left says "A.U. DE F, 1ER CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL DE FOOTBALL MONTEVIDEO 1930." The holder is made out of black walnut wood and I went to Things Remembered at Cary Town Center to have that engraving done at the bottom. It's a stick on that says "1930 FIFA World Cup."

i dont follow the younger guys much, but our U23 team looks much sharper offensively than anything i have seen from the national team. Klesjan is gonna be money.

And the curse of Africa begins!

2006 FIFA World Cup Ghana 2 USA 1 (USA eliminated on the last day)

2008 Olympics Nigeria 2 USA 1 (USA eliminated on the last day)

2009 FIFA Confederations Cup??????? I'm gonna scream if we have to play South Africa, or Egypt on the last day of group play.

We've done better against Europe in the Olympics and World Cup than we have against Africa.

that was pretty much a horrible game. we played arite, but orozko or whatever screwed us. I wasn't too happy about novak taking out altidore, holden, and szeleta when we are down by one. He played it way to conservative. Robbie Rodgers sucks ass btw and Guzan is the future

^I know it isn't that big of a deal, but knowing that we will have to play an African team in the group stage kind of makes you start to wonder if there is a curse on the USA since the last 2 African teams we have played in a mens tournament have sent us home. Maybe the African Gods are angry that Freddy Adu left Ghana to play for the USA????????

There's no curse.

No one cares if we lose all of our games in the CC.

For all I care, we can tell FIFA to fuck off and send a U-19 team.

I'm guessing you're talking about the last day of group play, because there's no way either the US or any team from Africa is making it to the last day of the knockout stage.

So, CAF sends five teams, right? And there are eight groups, right? I'd say that gives us a ~20% chance of playing an African side on the last day of group play. It's not that unlikely. Shut up about this curse bullshit.

Maybe we can focus more on us beating ourselves than being knocked out of a major tournament by an African team...

World Cup: against Italy, we squandered what could've been 50-60 minutes of a man advantage with a stupid challenge and a red card of our own, the Ghana game - our captain gifted a goal and we gave up a penalty kick

Olympics: two of best players are suspended for the last game of group play because of silly yellow cards, we give Netherlands a dangerous free kick in the last seconds of what should have been a win, the red card freaking 4 minutes into a game where all we needed was a tie

We can talk all day about how harsh most of these calls were but there's got to a point in US soccer where we can stop this kind of bullshit and actually step up and win games. I'm not sure what the problem is, but there's no confidence -- it's like we get in a position where we want to be and then we don't know what to do once we're there. I blame it on our pussy ass USSF and their top-to-bottom attitude of "let's just keep winning Gold Cups and qualifying for the WC and we'll call it a day"

FORWARDS: Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson, Brian Ching, Clint Dempsey."

17 man roster for next week's WCQ against Guatemala -- 1 will be added later

EJ has to be blowing Bradley or something, this shit is getting ridiculous

.Altidore and Adu were just in the Olympics and Europe starts this Saturday again. Maybe that is why.

btw, I take back what I said. I heard it was Germany ref's in the Ghana and Nigeria games. It's the cure of Hitler. He's still pissed we beat him in WWII.

Yeah, it's probably because Adu/Altidore are with new clubs and because they've missed all of the pre-season. They probably wouldn't have wanted to be called up anyways, especially since both probably wouldn't have seen many minutes in the Guatemala game, if any... because we all know we're going to do down there with a defensive as hell lineup and bunker down and play for a 0-0 draw.

^ I just looked through our all time win-loss records -- we haven't lost to them in any location or competition since '88 but we also haven't scored more than 1 goal in Guatemala since 1972

Get ready for 1-0, 0-0, or 1-1.

lol @ Eddie Johnson at 2:10 - "At the national level, you don't get a lot of opportunities... when you get your opportunities, you have to take advantage of them."

Lewis----Bradley------Mastroeni---Dempsey

PEarce----Bocanegra--Onyewu---Cherundolo

------------------Howard-----------------

There's the lineup -- looks like DMB wasn't fit enough, Ching over EJ is nice to see... other than that, no real surprises

When is Ruiz gonna get a card! He elbowed our player in the face and gets nothing, but our U-23 player gets a straight red for an elbow to the chest in the Olympics! WTF? Mastroeni shouldn't have a yellow card either. Ruiz is a flopper.

Dolo/Pearce don't look too good right now, I'm surprised Pearce didn't get called for the handball considering what calls Guatemala are getting in the game so far

I'm also not sure what Bradley contributes to the team other than 40 yard shots that get deflected or miss badly (has he ever scored a goal from that distance) I'd much rather see Edu out there. I also think Donovan is being wasted on the outside, you gotta switch him with Dempsey or bring on Kljestan or something

oh and for all the Boca haters (although I think it was mostly JTMoney) he is playing really good so far

other than that, pretty much what I expected -- a boring, uninspired US team and a Guatemala divefest
