That would be cool! The one problem with JK was funky formations in important games and putting players out of position. The US looked so much better vs Mexico once they went to 4 in the back. They should have played that way from the start.

I don't agree with this at all. They have no replacements and while I agree that the performances haven't been good enough I honestly believe that is down to a glaring lack of talent in the USMNT. I think we are going to regret this decision when we fail to make it out of the groups in Russia in two years.

Hiring Bruce Arena is an even worse move than firing JK. Klinsmann had his faults, no doubt but you have to credit him massively for giving American players that challenge themselves in European leagues a fair chance. The US does not have a very good league and even worse talent within it. JK got a lot of players of American heritage to commit to the USMNT and I feel that has been important. I also don't think players like Nagbe and Pulisic would have gotten a chance under someone like Arena or Bradley because of how young they are. I am grateful for Klinsmann for that.

I know a lot of people were pissed at Klinsmann continuing to berate the MLS but it is true. The US will never be a great football team until the MLS sorts itself out. Too bad the owners will never take that risk though. Thanks for the memories Klinsmann, I for one enjoyed your time with us.

Not a fan of this. At least it's only through the WC though, hopefully by then they'll shitcan Gulati too for the next cycle.

^It is a MLS only roster because it isn't an official FIFA break, so none of the clubs around the world will release players since they are currently in season.

would be just Karma for the USMNT to not qualify for Russia now. Gonna get embarrassed while there anyway.

Watching Carter-Vickers play in the FA Cup. He looks pretty decent. Big body.

Is he on the national team radar? I know he plays for the US youth ranks.

Coming in 2026...

http://www.espnfc.com/fifa-world-cup/story/3035778/fifa-council-unanimously-approves-world-cup-expansion-to-48-teams

Once we get to that I'm guessing we'll probably never fail to make the World Cup again. And we'll always make it out of the first round.

CCV didn't have a great game imo.

He gave up the pen that made it 0-2 WW. Then he made quite a few routine mistakes that led to Wycombe chances.

I've seen him play much better in preseason and other insignificant games, but that wasn't his night.

Guess this is as good a thread as any. What are peoples thoughts on us putting in a bid for MLS yesterday? Personally I am excited. I think this would be a great location for a team. Depends somewhat on where they put the stadium but I can see myself attending quite a few games each year. WakeMed soccer park would need some sort of revamp on the whole traffic thing I would imagine to be viable.

Detroit is putting in a bid as well, response is mixed at best. And most in support are in support of the economic ramifications more so than the potential for another pro team

I think 12 cities put in a bid.

Marcus Smith went forward with our bid in CLT despite city leaders trying to filibuster the decision on contributing tax money through the bid deadline.

WCQ back - Honduras tonight, kick off at 10:55.

No Yedlin, Johnson, Jones, Morris, or Wood. Save us Pulisic.

Trying to contain myself because Honduras is dogshit but I'm pretty hyped for a full strength roster. Yedlin at RB means we can move Cameron back to the good pairing with Brooks. Villafana looks serviceable at LB. With the backs we have now, FJ can move up to midfield and we can stop with Bedoya. Nagbe/Johnson/Pulisic behind Dempsey/Wood with Morris/Jozy as options as well is going to be pretty exciting.

I wasn't expecting that performance. Pulisic is very exciting for the future. We will see if Arena can keep it up in Panama.

I'm not shocked. JK did somethings at the end that probably weren't that smart, but his ultimate downfall was the fact that he had 2 of the 3 toughest games to start. He would probably be our coach at the next World Cup, if we played Mexico and Costa Rica in our last 2 games of the hex. I'm not worried about qualifying because our schedule gets easier for the most part.

Dempsey and Pulisic seem like they have great chemistry already. That Pulisic assist to Dempsey for the 3rd goal was beautiful. Nice combo of skill/finesse (Pulisic) and grit/strength (Dempsey).

Michael Bradley scored a goal too (yay), but he still looks like the slowest guy on the field

Bruce Arena saying Pulisic was developed by the American youth system. Lmao. Arena and the dinosaurs of US soccer still believe they can compete on a global level with home grown talent. When this idiot and his tactics lead to an embarrassing exit during the group stages is when US soccer will realize what a massive mistake they made.

Crazy night in Concacaf. Honduras gets a point v. Costa Rica and T&T is 0-0 thru 55' against Mexico.

Kickoff is at 10PM vs. Panama. Curious to see how many changes Arena goes with and if JJ gets in the lineup. Brooks/Lletget are definitely out because injury but I hope he just plugs them with Besler and Bedoya and doesn't mess with the formation or strategy. I like Jones as a late game sub against tired legs.

^That's probably good, so T&T stays behind us. If we win tonight I think we'll be fine. After tonight we could easily win 5 out of the last 6 with @ Mexico being a loss.

So we move into 4th. This cycle the playoff is CONCACAF 4 vs AFC 5. We should be able to win that if we finish 4th. Australia and Uzbekistan are currently in 3rd in their groups which would advance them to the round 4 AFC playoff. The winner of that plays CONCACAF 4.

There's still a long way to go. We're in decent shape. Two games against T&T. Home games against Panama and Costa Rica.

^Yep, if our schedule was reversed JK is probably still our coach. 2005 was the earliest we qualified ever. Of course after we beat Mexico late in the round to qualify we lost at Costa Rica. This time was the reverse. Two of the three toughest games came first.

I don't really get the point of the split. 60 games in the US, 10 each in Mexico/Canada. Seems like the US could easily handle all 80 in that scenario.

This isnt about what the US can handle, its about the optics of sharing with our neighbors promoting good will and all that jazz. With how the world views us after the whole Trump thing this is trying to show that everyone here isnt like that.

Read a few opinion pieces on how it's FiFAs way to have assurances that, say, an Iranian team wouldn't be potentially not allowed in.

Interesting. It looks like the USA is attaching Canada and Mexico to this just to increase their chances of winning it, but not giving them much in return.

"FORMAT DETAILS
While Gultati stressed the main goal for the three governing bodies was to first work towards earning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he did lay out some of the basic details for the potential tournament in North America.

The 48-team competition will comprise a total of 80 games, with 60 to be held in the United States and an additional 10 each in Canada and Mexico. The proposed format would also see the USA host all games from the Quarterfinals to the Final. "
