Does anyone know where I could get a pembroke welsh corgi on the cheap? (I could care less about it being full-blooded, etc, but as close as possible appearance-wise and that sort of thing)

call around to shelters. be advised that some (mostly privately run ones) are looking for a better candidate than "I want breed_X on the cheap"

that said, corgis are awesome little dogs.

i figured the terminology wouldn't matter much on tdub

i've played around with a corgi, loved the little mutt, but definitely couldn't have one then. getting a new place in august that is pet friendly and all, and was considering it.

i guess what i mean to say is that i'd rather not pay $400+ for a pedigree, as that isn't the important thing to me

From Wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Cowboy_Bebop_characters

Quote :
"Ein is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi brought aboard the Bebop by Spike after a failed attempt to capture a bounty. Ein is a "data dog": while the televised series only briefly hints on the fact that this means Ein's brain was somehow enhanced drastically, the manga shows Ed accessing data stored in Ein's brain via a virtual reality-type interface with which she has a conversation with a human proprietor. It is obvious that Ein is abnormally intelligent, as he is able to answer the telephone, drive a car (just the wheel), use the SSW, play shogi, and generally perform tasks that an average canine should not be able to do, but he never talks in a human language during the show"

^^I had a Corgi for 1 week when I was 7. Then my mom took it back to the breeder since she didn't want to have to clean up after it. That was cold.

Diesel, does your corgi shed a lot? i've read in several places that they do. i was wondering if it were possible to take care of them enough that there isn't hair everywhere?

Of course, just be sure to brush it out often, if lots of hair gets on the brush it won't be on your carpet/couch/clothes...etc

i've been looking out for a corgi too. you might be interested in

in any case, have you had any success in locating corgis and in that case where?

not much luck so far
most that i've found aren't very close at all, or even in-state. the girl i ran into the other day is the closest, but the place she said she got them apparently isn't findable on the web. thanks for the link though, but i'm looking for a pembroke if i can find one (the ones with light brown "sable" and white coloring)

you might want to try here

http://www.ppwcc.org/RESCUE/Rescue_current.html

though $300-400 seems way too much to adopt a dog.

i'll post if i find something good. i want to find a pup if possible. dogs just don't last as long as us, so i like to have a dog as long as possible ya kno. plus it seems easier to train em and get them used to you if they grow up with you. that does seem to be a decent site though and i may have seen it before but i'm gona look into it again, thanks.

I actually emailed them about adopting (at least meeting him to see) Cooper from that website and they never got back to me. Plus they never update the site. I am a big fan of breed rescues (a lot of dogs that get pulled from puppy mills go to them) but that one seems a lot more disorganized compared to the other ones I have been involved with.

We adopted him from a shelter (not in NC).

My dog was attacked by Shibainu Dog last Sunday!!! The Shibainu was leashed to a rain sewsage poll. He started burking at my dog. And suddenly the sewsage poll was broken and he was all over my dog attacking! He didn't get hurt, so it is okay. But we were all freaked out. Dammit, Shibainu Dog!!!

some more photos here...

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10213907

any idea what breed he is? yeah i know its listed as border collie/basset mix but they don't really seem to be very sure. i'm looking for a dog that's good for an apartment and is fine with being left alone for a few hours.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, Fry!

ha it's all good... your bumpin it up anyways

that one looks like he's got some pit bull by his body shape, but definitely not full blood. i don't think collie and basset hound are correct. both of those typically have more browns.

looks like a cool dog, i just find it odd that they mention he doesn't do well with other dogs. seems like the only way to tell would be to interact with him yourself :-/

^ definetely

Looks more like a American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull) and black lab or something?

Definetely not a basset. Not enough browns or long ears

That triangle head shape looks like a pit bull. How 'bulky' and muscular is he?

Edit: Okay, just looked at the other photos... Looks almost like a border collie / pit mix? If it's got Border Collie... which, to me, it looks like thats where it gets most of its traits looks-wise.... that thing is going to be a ball of energy and will be very hyper. Looks like a 'bulky' and ripped version of a border collie, which is why i say border/pit mix. My best guess, anyways

You sure they didn't say 'Border Collie' instead of 'Collie'?

You know, you might be better off just going to a local breeder found in the N&O. I think corgis are fairly common now, so they'll probably be cheaper.

Sebastian's a great little dog so far. Was shy at first but now all he wants to do is be petted and go out for walks. He loves turkey slices and cheese . And he's potty-trained which is a huge plus.

Pictures to come soon.

^^

i've read that there are some that are very quiet and tame, and others that are nuts. apparently a decent bit of it has to do with training too.

it's been a while since this thread was up. anybody know of any pups around?
