Had an accident today, and dropped my laptop. LCD is now shot.
Looks fairly easy to replace, but is it?
do you do this? if so how much?
good place to get a replacement?

So far cheapest i have seen is about $175 shipped just for the LCD. The actual gateway one on tigerdirect was over $700.

suggestions?

most are gonna be about $500

it is easy to do though, just very pricey

you may want to just invest in a new laptop unless you have a really really nice one

in the meantime is there a way to get my laptop to work with a regular monitor?
i hooked it up, but i have a password and cant even see to put it in. let alone to get to the settings to set up an extended monitor.

its easy to replace.

you just take apart the laptop, remove the old one and unplug it's LVDS connector, put in the new one, connect the connector and put it back together.

you may be able to get one cheaper than 175. 500 dollars is stupid, I cant think of any screen that would cost anywhere near that, even with some of the new highres laptop options.

Take it apart, check the part number on the back of the lcd itself, and do a crosscheck online. Might well be able to find one for 100 bucks-ish on ebay.

i have the part number. its an WXGA lcd. might be why 200ish is the average on the replacement.

to get it to work with a regular monitor in the meantime, hook it up and turn on the monitor

when you think it's at the login screen, scroll through your output options (you should have a Fn + F# combination that controls your output)...eventually it should pop up on the monitor
