Need to replace the bulb in DLP HDTV model# 52SX4D/52SX4D-UB....

The guy selling it said it needs bulb and ballast replaced.... Why would it not just be the bulb? Also- Any suggestions on where to find the setup cheapest? is this something i could do on my own easily?

These lamps usually come as a whole assembly, not just the bulb. It's just a bulb w/a caddy. You slide the old assembly out, slide the new one in. Very easy to do.

They do this (I imagine) to help prevent people putting their oily fingers all over the bulbs while replacing, which would lead to a busted bulb in no time.

Google can probably find you the best deal.

I'd be careful getting something like this from eBay. You never know if it's truly "new" or not. Also, if your bulb goes out before 1 year is up, it's nice to have the warranty.

The prices don't fluctuate that much on these things anyway, so I don't think it would be much more to just buy it from a store/retailer.
