So I have two fubared snap rings in my transmission. I've found that they should have measurements on them somewhere that should indicate which snap ring I need to buy to replace them.

The snap rings that are out of my transmission do not have these thicknesses/numbers/measurements on them. Which snap rings do I need to buy to replace them?

And does anyone know why there are different thicknesses for the snap rings? Do they apply pressure between the main/countershafts and the bearings and basically hold everything together that way or what? (there are like 11 different snap rings for 4 or 5 locations)

Also, does anyone know any shops around here that would know the answers to these questions?

i know you shouldn't be wasting this much time and effort on an ax5.

if the ones you took out are still in decent shape, you can mic them to figure out what you need. their purpose is simply to retain the gears/shafts/bearings, and provide the slight amount of preload in some cases. the thickness just depends on the groove in the shaft and the amount of weight/stress it's going to see retaining things.

i'll pass this along to one of my friends that's a jeep tech, he might have a fsm or something with what you need.

i was gonna say...why are you fixing an AX-5? either swap to another transmission, or pull an AX-5 from a wrecked jeep (or from someone who swapped to a different trans)

Take the old ones to Dixie Bearings (now AIT) off of corporation pkwy. They will size them for you.

^ do you have a contact number or anything for them? I googled and didn't find anything. and i've mic'd them, but the numbers aren't matching any of the ones that I can order, and the differences in the snap rings are like .03mm

if you have calipers or some other means of to precisely measure them, you can probably get some sampled in for free from smalley.
