The 4 years in a Mada 626 and going on 7 in a Saturn cured me of that thought."

Just messing with you.

You can also tie yourself to a large rock and throw the rock off the Empire State building. Terminal velocity is probably a lot cooler of a way to die than in a car that's only relatively fast.

^^I wrecked my first sports car (and incidentally first car period) too. And it took me 10 years to get another one. I should have never gotten the first one, its fucking stupid to put a young, inexperienced driver in a high powered car no matter who they are. And should I ever wreck out the Lotus, I have a daily driver to fall back on.

How do you plan to afford a new car when you apparently can't even afford an oil change at a Jiffy Lube?

If it would be effective at all I'd make a thread in Feedback Forum detailing how 99% of your posts in this thread, and in the Garage in general, have been nothing but trolling and shitposting, but we all know that the moderators don't really care to do anything.

i personally think it's fucking ugly, but if you like it, Miatas are a blast

any specs on mods?

it would be a great tool for learning how to really drive the shit out of a car--good handling, only adequate engine. no real varsity habits a la MR2. they're also super cheap to operate and maintain. shit, if you shatter the transmission, you can get another one for $200-300 if i remember correctly.

WAAAAAAAAYY overpriced, unless you just really want all that gaudy, unnecessary shit.

shit i didn't even look the first time to notice it was turbocharged

but still, you can buy an FMII Miata for around half that price.

look on ebay, craigslist, and miata.net

also, "should produce" my ass. the FM kits didn't make that much power out of the box as of a few years ago, and if it was making that much power, I'm pretty sure he'd have the dyno sheets to know for sure and back up that claim.

[Edited on March 21, 2008 at 8:17 PM. Reason : seriously...you'd pay 14k for that shit, but you haven't already spent it on an S2000?]

I can't find a good S2000 for that much.

Actually this one looks good:

60000 miles after 7 years? That's tremendously low.

That miata should be priced more at $8000 obo, although mechanically it sounds alright, the interior/exterior is so tacky/fugly that I wouldnt touch the thing. First thing to do is put a real roll bar in it, preferrably a hard dog.

I may go check out that TT. I know they're heavy, but a K04 will be putting out some serious power. He has the boost turned down low, but you can run like 20lbs. on that.

Is there really a big difference between the AP1 and AP2 models?

Wikipedia:

Quote :
"
The car was originally launched in 1999 as a 2000 model, given the chassis designation AP1. The 2000 model featured 16" wheels with Bridgestone Potenza S-02 tires.

For the 2002 model year, suspension settings were revised and a smaller glass rear windscreen introduced. The plastic rear window was replaced with glass; an electric defroster was added. Other updates included slightly revised taillamps, an upgraded stereo, and a revised engine control unit (ECU).
"

I'm looking for cheap 2002 ones, but that's hard to find without high mileage.

The plastic window sucks, but it's not the end of the world. You can always replace it with a 2002 top if it gets too bad.

look

don't even worry about any of that shit

get an AP1 because it's about the most sports car for the buck you can get in this price range. the AP2 is marginally improved in a few areas (and in my opinion, overly softened in a couple), but if you're on a budget, the AP1 represents more bang for the buck.

You're 24. don't spend too much money on a car at this stage in your financial life.

don't get something that will be a money pit for you and/or a huge headache since you don't know how to or are unwilling to take meticulous care of it and fix things when they break.

don't get something that will be a major case of you having a tiger by the tail (which almost everything you've posted so far represents).

some of these cars would be fine for, say, BigBlueRam...but you're not him. He's forgotten more than you'll ever know about repairing and troubleshooting them, and has a lot of experience driving extremely powerful cars. Also, I don't know how he gets his money, and I don't know anything about your financial state, but I'm willing to bet that you have less business throwing money around on cars than he does (or than do a bunch of other people you see and read about with cars like these. Just because you can make the payment doesn't mean you can afford it.)

You're about to bite off way more than you can chew in a number of ways. There's a reason that the people who have been there and done that are telling you that these cars are bad ideas for you, at least for right now.

[Edited on March 24, 2008 at 2:59 PM. Reason : and yeah, the plastic window worked fine in my experience]

you only need 1.

and you can't tell me that an S2000 is gonna be harder to find than the obscure shit you're digging up. for someone not immediately in the market for another sports car, i spend an unholy amount of time on ebay, craigslist, autotrader, cars.com, and various platform specific forums. I have a decent handle on what's out there.

oh, and try craigslist. that's prob my favorite place to look.

i would still rather have an S2000 for that money (which, with 110k miles, you can prob get).

i would consider that car if it had a clean title. i wouldn't pay that much for it with salvage brand.

Yeah, I've been looking all over. There are a few AP1s out there for good prices. I haven't checked them out yet though. I'd want to get a hard top on it, and I'm looking into how much that will cost if I did get an S2000.

more than it's worth, in my opinion. i daily drove mine for 2 years with just the ragtop. if buying a used one for low teens (or maybe even less, if you get one with 100k+ miles), you'd be retarded to spend another couple thousand for even a used hardtop.

just enjoy the car as is, or buy something else that's not a convertible.

also, personally, i would limit the cost of my car to half of my yearly earnings as an absolute max(don't know if that's a factor or not...don't know if you're still in school or out with a career level job. either way, it's your money and your ass if you fuck it away. i'm just saying...)

Yeah, I'm limiting it to 2/3rds at most. Optimally I'd only want to spend 50% though.

Dont buy below an 02.

Don't trick yourself into thinking you wont like the convertible. Or hell try. I would love to see the outcome.

I've had people tell me sunroofs are the same as having a convertible....hahahahahahhahaha

But seriously the EG hatchback is your best bet. 1992 models can be had for 2000 dollar bucks
