its in the bible, mayan calandars some evnts will take place that will be of biblical proportions

every major predictor in history has pointed to this year. the pyramids, easter island, lost cities all have clues that point back to 2012.

on top of all that earths magnetic fields the suns polar fields and sun spot cycles will all shift.

whats gonna happen? im scared

AHA, I used to be totally into this shit. I remember reading Nostra and whatnot in the library while my dad took a billion hours checking out cheap mysteries.

He completely disapproved of my interests, but he never said anything.

And then I turned 9 and grew up.

Drunk: 'It's the end of the world.' Thus sayeth the Lord God unto the mountains and the hills, and the rivers and the valleys. Behold I, even I shall bring a sword upon ya. And I will devastate your high places. Ezekiel, chapter six.

Waitress: Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning that they may follow strong drink.

Drunk: Isaiah, chapter five. It's the end of the world.

Mrs. Bundy: I hardly think a few birds are going to bring about the end of the world.

Melanie: These weren't a few birds.

Mrs. Bundy: Birds have been on this planet, Miss Daniels, since Archaeopteryx, a hundred and forty million years ago. Doesn't it seem odd that they'd wait all that time to start a war against humanity?

I used to completely believe in the Y2K thing.

And given that end-time prophecies are regularly made and have a 0% success rate, I think we can write this one off as well.

i love how all of these civilizations say the end is 2012 and yet THEIR ends were much much much earlier. i wonder how they were able to pinpoint the end of the universe but unable to continue advancing their civilzations

So in reality, is the Sun really coming to the Galactic Equator?

This is a panorama of the galaxy from our vantage point, beautiful picture.

The mayan calendar references to 2012 I believe end their current epoch. It doesn't necessarily mean the end of the world.

Also, if you post every bit of evidence you think points to 2012 as a monumental event, we can probably go ahead and use the same obscure references to mean anything.

well the sun's ecliptic is relative to that of the orbiting body. I do not understand what crossing the galactic equator has to do with this. Not to mention that the winter solstice has nothing to with either except being the day of the greatest angle between the celestial equator and the ecliptic.

Actually Perihelion will be on Jan. 5th in 2012. Nearly a 2week offset from the winter solstice whose proximity is purely coincidental as party of a 21000 year cycle. Although it does help moderate the northern hemisphere's winter and summer while making the S. hemisphere's slightly more extreme

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apsis

Not to mention the technology didn't even exist to take the necessary measurements to determine apsis of the earth during the time of the mayan.

Don't worry, if the world ends, we can start over. Norway has got us covered.

# Norwegian govt. paid to build vault in mountainside between Norway and North Pole
# Similar to an existing seed bank in England that works with wild plants"

The world isn't going to end.

Human society may disappear, but short of a massive supernova or black hole, the planet will be just fine.

without some HUGE manipulation of obscure numbers and references in the Bible there is NOTHING that says the world is going to end on 2012. in fact the Bible goes so far as to remind us that we dont know when it will end.

the mayan calendar simply stops or as some think starts over. it was never meant to signify the end of the world. i could make a calendar that ends on 11/11/2011, does this mean the world ends that day? no it means my calendar ended

also the earths magnetic poles are not predicted to switch in 2112 either

I think the thing with the Mayan calendar is that is a day when the calendar starts over. It doesn't actually end. It's a cyclic thing and this date is just the day is starts over. I watched a show on this topic and it seems that important events seem to happen when the calendar restarts (the last one was the American Revolution, I think) but it's not necessarily a bad thing and a lot of dates could be said to have important events on them nowadays.

Bottom line, a comet probably isn't going to hit the Earth or anything like that.

You know

A small percentage of humanity would probably survive a comet/asteroid strike.

They have to be cannibals though.

in another 4-5 billion years the sun is going to swell up to become a red giant. The radius of the sun will bring it's surface very close or outside of Earth's orbit around the sun. There is a very good chance earth will be devoured by the expanding solar surface. (there is an off chance the orbit of the planet will increase distance from the sun due to an interaction of the moon, sun, and earth, but nobody is sure of that.)
