Seeing as how there's all these threads covering small topics in the NCAA bracket theory, and how I had a decent prophecy this morning, we'll discuss in this thread! Lock that other bullshit...
Anyway, I was thinking this morning (after somehow foreseeing last year that UNC would lose to Georgetown even before I saw the brackets), that UNC and TN will play each other with a TN win. The way I think it could happen is TN the 1, UNC the 2 seed. Does anybody else see UNC as a 2 seed? They'd have to drop one more to Duke at least; maybe more...and not win the ACC tournament.
The point is, UNC is a pretty deadly tournament team this year, and I think TN is probably one of the only teams that match up well against them (which I'm not too attentive to other conference teams at this point)...

I'd guess UNC, UCLA, Memphis and Tennesee as the 1 seeds
Not really going out on a limb there, but number 1 seeds usually aren't huge surprises
Washington being a 1 a few years ago was the biggest surprise of recent years
Cincinatti not getting a 1 seed when Kenyon Martin broke his leg was somewhat of a surprise as well 2/25/2008 11:04:51 AM |

Roy "fastest to 500 wins at a historical basketball school that recruits itself and is still performing without him there in a subpar weak conference and the 500 win thing should in no way reflect or define his coaching ability and if you think it does you're a jaded crack-smoking Carolina homer who still lives with mom and dad" Williams. 2/25/2008 11:12:04 AM |

I'm thinking it's UCLAs tournament to lose. And this very well could be the case. I think UCLA on a good day good man up on defense and stop UNC's Brunswick/AMF Lanes point guard, but since it's been said that there are a lot of decent teams this year and no overwhelmingly good team, I don't think a lot of teams could hang with UNCs point-scoring ability when they're truly healthy. 2/25/2008 3:05:59 PM |

there are going to be 3, maybe 4, ridiculously good number 2 seeds this year
don't think the elite 8 is going to be much of a suprise this year haven't heard a lot of hype over many mid major's this year either2/25/2008 3:50:58 PM |

Who would've thunk Davidson would be the third best team in NC this year???
^^^ I'd like to see him go up against Love, whitey on whitey. Some center is gonna shut him down in the tourney and make him cry 2/25/2008 3:55:37 PM |

I think aside from the traveling issue, my biggest problem with little tyler is how ugly he makes every shot look with that gay/stupid pseudo-pumpfake flailing of the legs thing he does all the damned time. 2/25/2008 3:57:25 PM |

I cant believe that wake forest isnt being talked about more, they are still being considered a team that is not in the tourney and i think that they are a shoe in at this point after beating Duke and having a decent record and being in the ACC 2/25/2008 4:14:28 PM |

^^ they are not a shoe-in at all... if they can win 3 of their last 4, and win a game in the ACC tourney... then maybe they will make it 2/25/2008 4:17:44 PM |

^^true, I wouldnt really consider the atlantic 10 a mid-major anymore though
and gonzaga always does well(or has been predicted to do well in the ncaa's the past few years)
I guess i was thinking about your george mason's, vcu's, uncw's and manhattan's
davidson should suprise some teams, but they'd never be able to pull off a win against a 1 or 2 seed (though it might be a good game, davidson would never win) 2/25/2008 4:35:49 PM |

I hope that was a joke... this team is a lot different, MUCH more talent (Tyler Smith and J.P. were both 5 star recruits, Tyler tore shit up at Iowa last year) and is a LOT deeper.
That being said, I do think Carolina is better. They might be the one team that can run with Tennessee athlete/depth wise, AND they have a dominant center, something Tennessee doesnt2/25/2008 4:49:01 PM |

From CNNSI....
Quote : | "I liked Bruce Pearl's admission that he wasn't sure coming into Saturday's game -- and still might not be sure -- that Tennessee is the nation's best team. He said that all he kept telling his Vols was, "I don't know if we're the best team in the country, but can you believe we're 40 minutes away from being No. 1?"
Now that Tennessee has dethroned Memphis 66-62 and is less than 24 hours away from officially being named No. 1 in The Associated Press and Coaches' Polls, it's worth revisiting the subject: Should the Vols now be considered the favorites to win the national title?
There's only a small pack of legitimate title hopefuls: Tennessee, UCLA, North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Memphis and Texas. Our national champion won't come from outside that group, because the drop-off to the crowd that includes the rulers of the Big East (Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, and UConn) and Big Ten (Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana) is too big. Of the seven contenders, none has the mix of athleticism and quality depth that the Volunteers do. But if I were to fill out a bracket today, I'd be inclined to set up a Tennessee-UCLA title game with the Bruins winning, for three reasons:
* Much of UCLA's roster already has either one or two Final Fours under its belt ... * Florida, the only team the Bruins have ever seemed to cower and hide from, is finally out of the picture * The lone UCLA starter without Final Four experience, Kevin Love, gives them an interior dimension that the Vols simply do not have." |
