What? Twister - go play 360 or something you are so off based on this it's scary.
No one calls 'dubya' becuase he's a southerner - no one even looks at bush as a southerner anyhow. people call him dubya who support him too, you know, the peeps with the 'W' for president crap started it. They used it as a distinguisher from his father....
This is clearly different than whipping out the Hussein card becuase it aint no secret, you know why you are utilizing it - to fuel the ignorants' fear. You know it, I know it, johnny redneck knows it, so don't play that game. 2/26/2008 6:08:22 PM |

ok fine, how's this: Bush's inability to coherently speak in public without stuttering and tripping over words presents a couple problems. 1) His public speaking and vocabulary in and of itself should make any rational person question his intelligence. I'm not saying "Bush is retarded" or even "Average people stutter and trip over words when speaking in public, therefore Bush is average". Even is Bush is average in intelligence, I think this is a very bad thing. We elect 1 person every 4 years out of 300 million Americans. Why can we not demand the smartest of the smart to be our leader?
2) Even if his horrible public speaking skills don't represent an overall lack of intelligence and simply indicate that he's not good at public speaking, why is this not a problem anyway? People say "you don't have to be a good speaker to be a good leader." I say, well maybe you don't but it certainly doesn't hurt!. Strong and eloquent public speaking can do more to rally a cause or instill confidence in a population than any amount of legislation can. And once again, out of 300 million people, surely we can find someone who is smart and a good leader and is good a public speaking.
So given those two points, back to your strawman. I've shown that Bush's lack of speaking skills can or do directly impact his ability to effectively lead and govern. What again does Obama playing dress-up while in his father's home country have anything to do with him being elected President?2/26/2008 6:14:48 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148450 Posts user info edit post |
you havent shown that bush's speech "directly impact(s) his ability to effectively lead and govern"
you've given your own opinion, which is that pretty words are very important, maybe even more important than "any amount of legislation"...i like substance and action more than eloquent speeches...actions speak louder than words
so try again and dont come so weak next time...if i wanted to come that weak i could say obama's foreign garb shows he lacks the patriotism to the united states to be an effective role model and leader for hundreds of millions of americans...weak i know...but just as weak as your try, in case you didnt know] 2/26/2008 6:20:11 PM |

did you miss the part where I said speaking is only one part of being a good leader? THe other parts include "action". By your own admission, Bush fails on one of those two aspects. I contend he fails on both of them. My point is, I don't see why it would be so hard to find someone that can excel in both of those aspects. There's no point we have to settle for an illiterate conehead who may or may not get things done. As long as he's "getting things done", he might as well be able to speak well too.2/26/2008 7:42:59 PM |

From First Read:
Quote : | "Radio host goes after... McCain
No hurt feelings? Well, actually conservative radio host Bill Cunningham has got some. After ranting and raving during his introduction for McCain in Cincinnati, "Willie" booked it out of there to host his three hour radio show. As previously noted by First Read McCain apologized for Cunningham's comments and took full responsibility for allowing him to appear at his event.
During the second hour of his show, "Willie" became Wild Bill when he attacked McCain for apologizing. "He just threw me under the bus for the national media. I have had it," Cunningham blasted. "With McCain and -- I'm going to endorse Hillary Clinton. I want Hillary Clinton to become the next president of the United States. I am going to throw my support behind Hillary Clinton."
Overall breakdown: Cunningham attacked Obama. McCain apologized for the attack. Cunningham endorsed Clinton instead of McCain. And Huckabee, who one would figure would receive Cunningham's endorsement after today, was left out." |

kind of where i am starting to fall; for some reason i have been watching more coverage on this election than usual and they all say the same things in different ways. whatever the people they are speaking to want to hear. dems want to hear barack and hillary say the war will be over so they say it regardless of if they can really make it happen to the extent that they say they can or not. if you go back and look at every president that got elected i would guarantee that 95% of the stuff they promised would change doesn't really change all that much.
speaking of change, that is the only thing that bugs me about obama. when he speaks he acts like EVERY SINGLE THING IN AMERICA needs to change drastically. last time i checked our country may not be doing the absolute best that it ever has but it is doing alright at least in some areas. i mean for goodness sake, you would think we were in as bad a shape as Haiti the way he talks sometimes. it would be nice to hear him say just one positive thing about america every once in a while.2/27/2008 10:59:49 AM |

Obama would throw 200 pound law books at McCain and crush his feeble hip. But the McCain would probably not care about that minimal amount of pain and then gouge Obama's eyes out and eat them.

Obama has a great team of marketing dudes, and he has a great use of slogan - that's a TRIBUTE to his campaign, not a pan or should we ever suggest that is the 'magic' that he is duping us with. He runs an awesome campaign and should be commended for it. His control, assertion, and cool under fire is something we WANT in a president. 2/27/2008 4:17:36 PM |

Kainen,
Part of your education at NCSU is learning to recognize the art of persuasion when it's being practiced. Recognizing the subtle manipulators that clutter our minds and gently nudge our decisions. It's an important skill for navigating the world.
For example, colors can inspire emotional responces on their own, irrespective of context or substance. If there's nothing else you get from looking at a Rothko painting, you should recognize that. Hitler and Coca-Cola know it--they share a color scheme for a reason. And you need to know it too, unless you want to be just another member of the Pepsi Generation. 2/27/2008 5:10:31 PM |
