Ive got a an ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo, and currently have an NVIDIA 6200 LE vid card, which ive come to the sad realization is shit.

Cost isn't a real issue, performance is. That said, I'd like to keep it under $250 if possible.

Give me a small explination as to you choice if you can. I know just enough to be dangerous

ok, well scratch that, your board only has a PCIe x4 not a x16 slot

you'll probably want an AGP card like the 3850:

DX10 and enough power to do Vista if you choose to go that route in the future, it'll hang with the best of 'em

i'd say your next best option would be a X1950PRO card, for about $135, you'd be spending A LOT LESS MONEY on an ancient technology (AGP)

^^ I wondered if I was actually getting any benefit from using the PCIe slot. My AGP slot is unused, and is 8x/4x I think...Would it be smarter to go with an AGP card this time around vs it's PCIe counterpart?

You've got a core 2 duo or pentium D right? What power supply do you have by the way- a lot of people underestimate the power demands of a better video card. The 9600gt comes in just under the 8800 gt in performance but is a good deal cheaper.

^For about 250 you could replace your motherboard and card and greatly improve performance. Just make sure they're all compatible and everything and fit in your case. Although if you've got a pentium D in there I'd say you should save up another 300 or so and go for a more significant upgrade- mobo+cpu+video card+possibly RAM.

Ive maxed out the RAM slots already, & you are correct in the Pentium D and the power supply is 400w I believe

check power supply requirements on any card you buy. You may have to get one with more juice. How many drives do you have? Anyways, you could do that mobo+video card upgrade and get a core 2 duo in a couple paychecks. You'll double or triple your framerate in a lot of games by the end of it.

Beleive me, I've already threatened the life of this mobo more than once.

I'll look into my power supply, but if I spend more than $500, I'm going to all the way to a gaming laptop that I can take to the office.

Unless you're one of those nigs whose definition of gaming is WoW.

Most entry laptops come equipped with grossly underpowered graphics cards.

Yeah, ones I've priced are are around $2500. Like I said, Im not going to dump a whole lot more into this system because its money better spent elsewhere

I can honestly say Ive never played a minute of WoW. Ive got the attention span of a gnat...I wanna be able to set a game down, get distracted by other shit and pick back up where I left off when Im done.

ok, i'm an idiot, i read PCIe @x4 and thought it was a x4 slot, it's not, it's a x16 slot that runs in x4 mode, so back to my original suggestion of 8800GT, try to stay away from AGP if you can, if you get a PCIe card you can take it with you to your next computer if you want.

DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON A 9xxx series CARD!... for $20 more you can get a 8800GT that is nearly TWICE as fast

^^it's not the end of the world, with your setup it'd be good for another 2 years or so... even with an AGP card, you'd just have better longevity if you could do PCIe card.

actually...newegg is very much on top of the game...i've consistently had products shipped within hours

seriously, though, just refuse the package...it doesn't cost you anything, and they'll get it back fairly quickly and refund your money without any restocking fees

in the meantime, just order what you meant to order

They took about 3 days with my order (all items in stock). The 3 day shipping also took 5 days. I guess everyone else is a whole lot luckier than I am.
