My parent's have been feeding him all week. He lives like 4 doors down, but they're sorry-asses. They had him on a chain, with no box. Last week when it rained, he had to lay out in it because he had no where to go. He's been off his chain all week this week, and he knows that Daddy feeds Tonka on the back porch every morning, so he comes up here to eat. Tonka knows that the poor thing is hungry, so he just stands aside and lets him eat all his food. I had only seen him from a distance before today.

I let him in the house a little while ago. He is SOOOO sweet and SOOOOO soft! He feels like a plush teddy bear! I sat in the floor with him, and he just curled up in my lap. He was laying under my feet, but now he's behind the recliner with his head under it! We let him back out after the first time he was inside earlier today, and opened the door about an hour later, and he was just laying by the AC unit waiting for us to let him back in.

We decided that if no one on here wants him, we're going to either call or take him to the SPCA. The owners are not feeding him, they're completely neglecting him, and he deserves to be loved. I know he would quickly get a home at the shelter or a no-kill shelter close by. We can't keep taking in strays either, and really can't handle another dog.

So, if you're interested, let me know! I'll be coming back to Raleigh the Sunday after Spring Break, but could arrange to meet you somewhere before then if you wanted. I figure that this is giving plenty of notice for people to get ready for a dog if they want one. I'm assuming that with the poor attention he gets, he's probably never had a shot or anything like that. He definitely has the normal puppy worms and needs a bath. I would be willing to bathe him for you though.

i don't like spots or darkness on the tongue...chows are awful dogs, and i've seen a number of chow mixes go nuts...after 6 years at a vet/boarding/training place, i have a bit of experience with them, too

in cases like this, you dont call animal control, you call the SPCA.

SPCA is what I meant, not animal control! lol

tell zorthage to let me know!! And anyone else who may be interested.

I did notice another cool thing about him, he doesn't growl if you get near or touch him while he's eating. And he doesn't really try to bite a lot like most pups.

Also, Tonka is a Husky Chow mix, he has a few spots on his tongue too, but he is one of the best dogs in the world. I have had another chow too. Lucky1 has a blonde chow. I have seen some mean ones, I'm not denying it - but just like with Pit Bulls, its all in how they're handled.

Tell punchmonk that he has fuzzy, crinkly hair on his ears like a shihtzu!! But he's bigger than one.

We've been calling him 'Snoopy' because he 'snooped' his way into Mama's room when he heard her opening her mail.

lol, I know it looks like I have him in a head lock in the 3rd pic, but I was sitting in the floor, and he walked up and shoved his head between my arm and body, put his paws on my leg and looked like he said "Sup?".

If he's properly raised he'll be a good dog, albeit a larger one.

Not all big dogs eat the shit out of furniture and kill people.

I'd take him if I had a house and a job. Get back to me in three or four years plz.

[Edited on February 29, 2008 at 10:51 PM. Reason : ^ Yeah, if he grows up to have a big dog bark when something seems out of place, that'll kick ass.]

I have a blonde chow that is the sweetest dog in the world. She rolls over in front of complete strangers just to get her belly rubbed. I believe that if a pet is raised right and given plenty of love and attention that 99 percent of them will be good dogs.

I had a dog that fucking snapped when I was a kid. He had a brother from the same litter and they were both treated wonderfully, just this one went nuts one day and was never sane again. He tried to attack his brother, kids in the neighborhood, and eventually he wouldnt let anyone in the family touch him without growling. We had to have him put to sleep. So it's not 100% nurture winning over nature.

the dog whisperer would be (completely heterosexually) OFFENDED by that

Home slice is as queer as ten feet up a gymnast's ass no matter how many kids he's managed to wipe off his monitor and slam into his wife

I still love him though

I don't think I'm quite understanding the story here...he's your neighbor's dog but he wandered off and your parents took him in? Do the owners even know that you have him now? You're just gonna give away someone else's dog? Not that I'm opposed to it in this case (since the true owners treated him like shit like you said). He seems like a good enough dog and I'm glad your parents stole him.

that appears to be a dog and from the story, it seems like aforementioned dog may belong to someone else--so to the casual observer this may appear to be a stolen dog. whereas stealing a dog is a felony in NC, this thread may have been a bad idea...

Ok, if you think it is stealing him if he wanders to my house because he's being mistreated and not fed, then I'll just call animal control on the owners and risk him being put to sleep if you would rather me do it that way. The owners have been gone for a good week, there is another dog down there on a chain - no food or water I'm sure - so maybe calling animal control is the way to go. Otherwise, if he wanders up here again and stays here and refuses to go home, I consider him mine and I'll do with him what I want. For all I know, he doesn't belong to them, and he just likes their other dog. Maybe they stole him by putting him on a chain.

How can I even tell the owners what's going on if they're not home for a freaking week!

My parent's didn't steal him. He came into our yard, onto our porch, and is eating my dog's food. I gave him love and let him into my parent's house. Now, he don't want to leave.

I'm beginning to wonder if it is a good idea to ask them, because they could easily say "No, you cant have him." And then if he got missing, by me or if he ran away to someone else, then I would be to blame and I would kill someone if they retialiated against my dogs because they blamed me for something I didn't do. Because if I asked and they said no, I wouldn't take him - simple as that.

Anyhow, I just got home and looked around for him. I see him down there, and a car is there for the first time all week (I think that's the right house, their property line with the other neighbor is really close), and it looks like he is on a chain, but I am not going into their back yard to see. I'll just see if he comes up here to eat with Tonka in a few. So, we'll kinda play it by ear for now. But pm me with interest, and no one has to know the outcome of this.

Ok, I just thought to go outside while the rain has taken a break and see if he is outside... sure enough. He's been laying out in this pouring rain and lightning since it started. The lights are on at the house, so I am afraid to go down there messing around. Also, there is another dog that can reach Snoopy, but my Mom says he is friendly. Either way, if I get too close they're going to start whining and barking and the owners will come outside. The other dog is the only one who can get inside the box, Snoopy can't. The poor thing is just laying in the grass in a little ball. I don't know what to do. We are about to get another strong storm coming through here in about an hour or so. I don't want to stir up shit among the neighborhood, but this poor puppy don't need to be laying out in the weather!

Give me advice, please!!

The owners know he is in the rain, they're just shtty owners. Read my original post.

I don't want him laying in the bad weather, especially if we get some hail in this next system.

I'm thinking I should call animal control.

i doubt stealing the dog is going to help shut her up any.

if she is neglecting the dog... she might actually not want the dog.

you could probably be like... "hey, can i have your dog. he likes my yard"

I'm not trying to steal him. I'm not gonna try to find him a home anymore. I just want him out of the rain. I called the property owner just now, I don't know if he'll call them or not - his wife is out of town, she would have though. Once the lights go out down there, I'm gonna look and see if he's still on the chain.
