I'm in the market for some new sunglasses. I have to get polarized lenses...

I drive for a living so I'm willing to spend a little bit for the glasses, just not going to throw money away.

I used to have Wiley X glasses, but I believe I've misplaced them.

I'm looking at some Oakley's.....but they just seem so darn expensive (maybe because I've never bought a pair before).

I have a pair of Costa Del Mar Fathoms. Polarized, blue reflective mirror coat on the outer lenses. They're pretty comfy, and I like them over the Oakley.

I always got the knock off Oakley's available at any metropolitan street cornet

they'd break and crack within a few weeks, but no big deal cuz its like 15 bucks

About a year ago I got a pair of real Oakleys and they haven't broken yet

They were like 160 or so at one of those little stands in the mall

I keep them in my car otherwise I'd lose them all the time

[Edited on March 4, 2008 at 3:18 PM. Reason : I also got some Chanel's but I only wear those at night to coordinate with my outfits]

I have a pair of Arnetts that I really like. They are pretty comfortable and not that expensive. I recently got a pair of polarized Oakley Gascans. They are nice so far.

I've had raybans, smiths, natives, and persol.

I have good things to say about all of them.

I'd check out REI, and get a membership, if you don't already have one. You can return your purchases for any reason, at anytime. For instance if you buy a pair of sunglasses and they break 2 years from now, blamo, new sunglasses. This is where i've gotten my natives and smiths.

don't fuck with oakleys

get costas, ocean waves, or ray bans...

seriously, get a good glass lens, with a good warranty for just a little bit more than Oakleys

sunglasses hut at south hills sells all of them at cost, I purchased my $230 Costa Del Mar Harpoons for $165 there

maui jim's have the best lenses ....

may i ask what you drive though? some new vehicles have polarized windshields thus 2x polarized makes weird spots and rainbows on things.

i would think Oakley's warranty would be better...but o well.

$200 for the oakleys or $145 for the natives.

This is a little off topic but which direction should the polarization be oriented with sunglasses? I have some that I think are diagonally oriented. The sky is the most blue when I hold them at a 45 degree angle. Is this right? If not, should the sky be the most blue when oriented normally as you'd wear them or when the glasses are held up and down?

my eyes are really sensitive to light so i have to use really good sunglasses, after a lot of looking i settled on maui jim. they are better glass than just polycarbonate lenses, are polarized, and have an anti-glare coating on the inside unlike most other sunglasses. that keeps all that ghosting out when the sun is slightly behind and to the side of you. theyre well worth the money and not just flashy like the silly designer sunglasses. however if you found oakley's expensive you might want to keep looking.

Those Oakleys are ugly. The Natives look pretty good though.

Just go to the Sunglass Hut and try on a ton of stuff. Look for a salesperson with decent style and ask their opinion. A pair of glasses that might look great on one person can look terrible on someone else depending on their cheekbones, eyes, nose, face width, etc. I'd never order glasses out of a catalog without going to the store and trying them on first.

I have those exact glasses in Tobacco and they are great. Plus you cant beat getting replacement lenses for $40 if you happen to scratch them.

Costas are awesome! Gave you the wrong link the first time. You can get the fathoms with glass lenses too.

Mine were glass with the blue mirror tint. They are the most comfortable glasses I have worn, and they won't slip off your face.

I support Ray Bans. I like the classic look. They're like levi's, always in style. I have three pair and just picked up a new pair of the redesigned wayfarers (blues brothers glasses). I fucking love em.

for anything like this, i'm a huge fan of REI...i think they jacked up their membership to $20, but if you spend $200 in the next year (really, ever) you'll make that back, and THEN you have REI standing behind you to replace anything you fuck up

FTW, after wearing oakleys for yeaaaaars i made the switch to costas for my primary sunglasses, and will not look back. I still wear oakley's at work just due to the ANSI cert and the fact that they are cheap enough that if i break or lose them i don't feel that bad, but they are good enough not to be "cheap" glasses

Hammerhead 580 gray are what I'm wearing now

just please don't be a tool and get the costas with the blue lenses unless you fish frequently

with most polarized glasses, you really do "get what you pay for"

maui jims are expensive, but their polarization is considered top notch

revos, which are upscale Raybans (same company), are just a short step below

of course there are others, but these are both very commonly available

i have the costa Brine with the tortoise shell frame and green mirror glass lens.

best sunglasses i've ever owned. The fit my domepiece like a dream. great customer service too in repairing them. I crused them bad on the boat last summer when we were hustling back trying to beat a storm, shattered one of the lenses horribly. Sent them in the next week, 10 days later i had them back on my domepiece. I would repair again in a heartbeat.
