Just read this again for like the twentieth time. Gets better every read. Hope the movie stacks up. Alan Moore has nothing to do with it, not like that's a surprise

I wasn't too familiar with this so I looked it up on wikipedia and it seems pretty cool. That Nite Owl dude on the slide show looks A LOT like Batman though.

the characters are loosely based on other characters. That's not something you should focus on when reading this book

^^

they're based on old Charlton Comics characters like Captain Atom and Blue Beetle that DC acquired

but alan moore being alan moore changed them all up

i think alan moore rejects the idea of anything he makes being turned into a film

I actually like the costumes...they have that retro-ish look that this story demands.

I'm a little worried about Dr. Manhattan though. Apparently he is going to be entirely CGI with Billy Crudup doing the motion capture. Hmmmm...I worry that it will turn out shitty and be like the Hulk movie.

What they need to do is somehow combine the animation from 'Beowulf' with some crazy, super-advanced CGI.

I cant think of a trailer that had a better song attached to set mood. I didnt have that SP song, but I now own it.

at least i hope that's how it's done... even better will be his reappearance, one organ system at a time

I purposely waited until I went to TDK to see the trailer for this, and then lol'd that the song is from the Batman & Robin soundtrack.

The movie looked good from the trailer, but I was sitting next to this guy with a retarded stereotypical "huck huck huck" kind of dorky laugh when I saw it, and it's tainted my perception.

should be full of awesome

the thing won a Hugo Award, only 'comic' ever to win one, ever.

loved the "comic," but it is going to be hard to capture the tone of the book in the movie.

should be interesting.

I am...afraid. I saw the previews, it looks visually perfect and stunning. But what about the plot?
How can you handle the rape scene? It's a rather character-central plot point, but perhaps they won't actually show it on screen?
The twist will still be the same, and it will undoubtedly have an even worse effect seeing the destruction live. I'm almost tempted to withold the graphic novel from my mother and make her experience it live first...

the shot of Comedian on the owlship, looking down at angry crowds at the time the Keane Act was passed gave me goosebumps

the song choice and serious tone of the trailer, I think, should imspire optimism that the TONE is maybe the focus of our filmmakers.

Like, maybe Snyder isn't just "making sure he gets every cool shot."

I'm VERY optimistic, now.

i mean... they've shown rape in film before and they've shown flashbacks in film before. i don't see any reason they wouldn't be able to do this.

^^ per wikipedia, they had to cut it, but they're releasing an animated rendition of it on dvd.

[Edited on July 21, 2008 at 11:05 AM. Reason : ^ also per wikipedia (and trailer), they "modernized" laurie's, night owl's and ozymandias' costumes]

Well after reading that ^^ and seeing the preview before the dark knight I'm more excited about it.

I just thought it looked a bit confusing but the wikipedia synposis of it makes it seem really interesting.

I heard that some of the stuff in this movie may be designed to be a commentary on other superhero movies, and if that's the case, then it fits that the song was from Batman and Robin.

i've heard a lot of people say this. it's a film that's not coming out for like 7 months, and the trailer has one line in it. of course you're not going to make sense of it at this point, just from the trailer.

yeah, it's a super in depth story. I've read it at least 15 times over the years and I still find new things every time I read it. Do yourself a favor and go buy the trade paperback before the movie comes out.

Anyone else here have the individual 12 books?
