Riding down there tomorrow with my roommate and a friend so that one of them can be interviewed for grad school there.
Basically just tagging along to help out with travelling expenses, etc...
What is there to do in this town? Record stores, good bars, etc? How about during the day when he's taking tours and doing interviews?
I know there's supposedly a good disc golf course that I want to play... has anyone here spent a good deal of time in Talahassee? 3/13/2008 2:20:48 PM |

similar characteristics to raleigh in that it's a college town and the state capital
one of my current roommates went to FSU and lived there after college for a while
he said it is fun for the most part, but just like any other small/mid-sized town 3/13/2008 3:14:21 PM |

I lived there for 4 years. Go to Bullwinkles on Saturday. One of the best bars around when school is in. There's a few bars and stores on Tennessee Street, it's similar to Hillsborough. There's usually people playing on the intermural fields on Gaines St. during the day...but you'd be better off just drinking all day long.
http://www.floydsmusicstore.com/ it's a pretty popular place too

A college town is a town that is basically there because of the college.
Good examples are:
Clemson Auburn Alabama UGA Ole Miss Miss St. Florida
At no time should a city that is the state capital be considered a "college town" 3/13/2008 5:14:39 PM |

well, except when it IS a college town. Raleigh, in whole or in part, whether you like it or not, is a college town. Go to Charlotte and find me Chinese delivery at 3am, if you can I'll retract my statement. 3/13/2008 5:18:26 PM |

So the availability of late night delivery is what makes a town a college town?
That is about the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
Raleigh is not a college town. It just happens to be a town that has some colleges.
Some of you have obviously never been to real college towns.
Oh, and college towns don't have a fucking NHL team in them either.

lots of fun bars (TN st.) and very very hot women running around

100% Agreed your list is dead on. UNC would be a great NC example, the town is based on the college in everyway and has a good relationship because it knows this.

don't make me insult your intelligence any more than you already have by breaking this down into specifics any half-wit could have inferred from my statement 3/14/2008 2:32:08 AM |

^^^ I hadn't looked at the website. Christ. I'd rather eat glass than go see Daughtry or Kenny Chesney at that awful looking place
Thanks for some of the recommendations.
btw, Wikipedia puts Tallahassee on a list of college towns, but not Raleigh. But who cares. 3/14/2008 6:51:44 AM |

I live here now. It is great. More college bars than Raleigh, less places like Glenwood South. Cheaper beer and more girls in Tallahassee.
it is spring break now, so the crowds are not out, which is good for exploring.

Not really trying to act like authorites on anything. Actually, its all pretty much common sense to the majority of people in college on what is, and what isn't a college town.
