Did you ever think that the one-dimensional representation of many characters on the show is a function of us, the viewer, experiencing the narrative through Dexter's cold, emotionless (allegedly) and alienating lens? He is, after all, our narrator.

I am inclined to believe that you are onto something, but I do not believe that assumption could be made without reading the novel the series is based on. I'd hate to give cable television too much credit.
I keep meaning to pick up the book.

^^^^ the books aren't really that good. The show is far superior. You don't really see any development in the characters besides Dexter. No back stories for the secondary characters. 3/17/2008 8:00:58 PM |

i tend to really like the shows that the premium cable channels put out. like oz and 6 feet under and weeds and the wire and blah blah bah. i think the pay channels have much better writing. i might just trust them more since there are no real sponsors, but still.3/17/2008 10:10:23 PM |
