I currently go to Gentle Care off Tryon Rd for my cat's vet needs. He's had this bald spot on the back on the back of his neck for about 3 weeks now. When I first took him to the vet, they suspected it was ringworm and gave me Conofite (miconazole) solution to put on twice daily and they took a sample to grow a fungal culture. Two weeks later his spot is getting worse (more crust on the skin, very little fur growing back) and he now has a spot on the top of his ear that has the same issue. I went back and they said the culture was negative, but they're convinced that it was a false negative and so I've had this shampoo to prevent the "fungus" from spreading and a sulfur dip that fucking REEKS. Now they want to start him on an expensive oral antifungal accompanied by expensive liver tests to make sure they drugs aren't hurting his liver. All my friends that have worked as vet techs and my one friend in vet school says that something here isn't right and that Gentle Care sounds more and more fishy every visit. Long story short, recommend me a good honest vet for my cat, preferably something on the south side of Raleigh near NCSU. Thanks for your help.

which doctor did you see at gentle care? i took my cat there for about a year when i lived in raleigh and they were always really great. i saw the female doctor who specializes in cats. my cat was extremely sickly when i rescued her and we had a series of infections, but gentle care always provided great care for me.

Dr Ansede @ Tryon and 401
661 1515
elise works at a vet, and he's who she recommended. I think she sends all her friends there (because she works at a pricey vet)

I <3 them. If you end up going, tell them I referred you and we each get a $5 credit (I know, I know...not much at all)

And even though it's against posted policy, they'll work with ya on money issues if you need it.

And they sent me a sympathy card when my dog died

$5 is $5. Where else can you get free money?

^hahah yeahh it's kind of misleading. looks like the sketchiest vet office ever, but actually they're really nice and helped me out when my rat was sick. dr. grant knows what she's doing, and even if she seems kind of impersonal she really does care.

^Many of my fosters went to Crossroads. They were great.

Crossroads, Oberlin and Glenwood are some of the more reasonably priced vets around here.

I used to go to Quail Corners vet and had no complaints but they were a little pricey and I switched to Oberlin when I moved across town.

Wife and I use Brentwood Animal hospital thing. Newinswander is really good and she use to work for him. If you know my wife, then you know we got a shitload of animals and she'd only take them to a good place....besides I'm surprised she hasn't already piped up in here and told you what was wrong with your cat and where to take it.
