What could be causing this?

I use a macbook running 10.5.2

ISP is Time Warner Residential

Router is Linksys WRT 54g

I've tried resetting router and modem, still slow.

Connect directly to modem, reset, report back. If its fast then then router is the problem. I'll post more when I'm at the computer, too much typing on phone

Time Warner sometimes has (very) slow DNS lookups. I switched mine to 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3

What applications are you running.

They do throttle some protocols, and they have admitted to lowering priority on certain traffic.

that number means nothing apparently

It takes about 3 or 4 seconds to load a page on this website

ESPN.com? Try 30 seconds a page

I'll save you the trouble.

It's a Leopard issue w/ DNS. My TWC was BALLS slow the day I finally got a Mac.

Here's why: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=392852

Rather than reading all 15 pages, here's your solution:
https://www.opendns.com/start?device=apple-osx-leopard

Do exactly what it says -- add those 2 DNS IPs, hit okay, and I'll bet your golden. Worked for me, anyway.
