Paulus is a great shooter, a horrible defender, a mediocre ball-handler and a man ends up on his backside more during a basketball game then he stands upright. I'd say he's mediocre and annoying, not terrible. 3/21/2008 8:23:31 AM |

I will never say one play wins or loses a game (because it rarely happens). However, one play can most definitely affect a portion of the game. That play happened near the end and when you couple it with the OBVIOUS shove under the basket that, I believe, Henderson did on the last inbounds play of Belmont and you clearly see that ever so common pattern appearing again. 3/22/2008 10:12:27 AM |

Duke is the only team in the entire country that gets game changing calls right? How about UCLA's miraculous over the backboard shot? what about the Georgtown block or any number of games they've won on a controversial call this year? Bad/missed calls are everywhere .....ESPN even had an article about the level of officiating recently. 3/22/2008 10:44:41 AM |

Yeah, and another difference between Duke and other teams is that they get the obvious calls.
I'll grant that everybody tends to get away with a foul here or there. And most folks can fake being fouled fairly well.
But Duke is the team that gets the obviously wrong calls where the whole world is like, "WTF?!?" Coach K could march on to the court and kick an opposing player in the nuts, and the other team would get called for a foul and a technical. And they'd add several seconds to the clock just cause Duke feels tight for time.
And that lone Duke fan at the bar would say, "That's just good, smart basketball..." 3/22/2008 11:25:56 AM |

I honestly get pissed off watching Duke play. Singler is a really good player. He is athletic and has good size. But when a fucking PG comes in the paint instead of challenging him at the rim like any athletically gifted big man should do he fucking jumps under the guy with his hands up and flops like a bitch.
I can't STAND that kind of basketball. It just pisses me off and it is CONSTANT with Duke. CONSTANT!
*** and I don't care if it works and it's "smart"... it's bitchmade basketball and it doesn't do a damn thing to prepare these guys for the next level. It's a step above that guy at the gym playing pickup that calls three seconds and charging fouls.

As I decide to fulfill my life's strategy The devil insists on trying to battle me I meet him in an empty field on the high plains He throws temptations my way to inflict internal pain Life and death matters, this ain't no game It's mind over matter, the power of my brain He thinks I'll give in if my muscles start to strain He believes I'll submit to the evil of society's frame And benefit from notoriety's gain He says I don't have to properly train and that he'll give me all the fame and everyone will know my name But I think he's insane 'Cause I know the truth- to gain is to give To have pain is to live So I call on my heavenly Father's name And slowly watch the thunder and rain subside I'm finally able to push the temptations aside I went blow for blow, I went face to face Now the devil knows, I'm able to escape Not by a back door or an alternate route I saw the middle high ground and I ran right through 3/22/2008 12:22:17 PM |

I can't see what my future has in store but I move forth with the strength of a condor The courage of a warrior The commitment of an American soldier Despite this weight on my shoulder my inner forces circulate to form a nucleus of an unbreakable bond These words describe the soundtrack to my life's song My mind and body united like the Colors of Benneton My destiny isn't told by the creases of my palm A sharp thorn once cut my soul The blood flowed But no bandage would cover the wound I couldn't help but stare at the distant moon Waiting for a resolution to come at an instant soon I asked the Lord, "What am I to do?" He said, "Son, I made the sky blue The rain falls because of me Leaves change colors on a fall tree I was the inspiration to Martin Luther King I'm the reason Ray Charles could sing I've changed others through and through And my son, I'll do the same to you" 3/22/2008 12:44:20 PM |

Quote : | "From the NYTimes:
Sick of being an underdog despite their the spate of recent success (three appearances in the Round of 16 in four years), West Virginia players lit into Duke. West Virginia forward Joe Alexander led the charge. He had the assembled news media cracking up when a reporter told him that Duke had eight McDonald’s all-Americans. “Who?” he asked, very skeptically.
He wasn’t done. Nor were his teammates.
Alexander on breaking down Duke on film: “We knew that coming in that they were just going to stand around and not rebound. So we were ready to exploit that.”
Alexander on the Duke mystique: ““We don’t care that they’re Duke. That doesn’t mean anything to us. People look at West Virginia like we’re this mid-major school playing all these big schools and upsetting them. That’s not the case at all.”
West Virginia center Jamie Smalligan: “We don’t have any McDonald’s All-Americans and we don’t have any guys who were the No. 1 player in their state. But I think that Coach K would love to have Joe Alexander on his team right now.”
West Virginia guard Joe Mazzulla: “Duke is a great team with a great tradition and they have a great coach. But when you have the media coming up to you and constantly asking you about Duke’s tradition and we’re getting overlooked. We’re a good team, and we’re a great team when we play the way we did in the second half. I think Coach Huggins as well as the rest of the teams want to get to a point where teams have to worry about playing us and not us have to worry about playing other teams.”
Alexander on the Big East vs. the A.C.C.: “People are always hating on the Big East. I don’t understand why. We came in the fifth in the Big East and we manhandled a good A.C.C. team.”
Cam Thoroughman asked whether Duke’s Greg Paulus was one of the eight McDonald’s all-Americans. When told yes, Thoroughman said, “Oh my God. Are you kidding?”" |

Quote : | "Ignore the hype: the ACC just wasn't that good this season. In less than 24 hours, two mid-level Big East teams (West Virginia and Villanova) took out the second- and third-best teams in the ACC (Duke and Clemson). It would be one thing if that were a fluke, but it wasn't. The Big East is that good, and the ACC just didn't pass the eye test all season long. Too many people cited the ACC-Big Ten Challenge and the ACC's No. 1 conference rating in the RPI as reasons for the ACC's preeminence, but the ACC-Big Ten Challenge took place in November (i.e., who cares?) and I think we've learned by now that the RPI isn't a credible tool for measuring much of anything, especially conference strength. Over the years, the ACC has proven itself as the nation's best basketball league, but that just wasn't the case this season. (Now watch North Carolina and Miami make the Final Four.) " |
I still dont think you can seriously say the ACC wasnt good this season... For the most part it was just that all the teams were on about the same level ( not all, but you get the point) The big east is just way too big to make equal comparisons, but top to bottom the acc is the best conference, as is the case every year. Duke was great during the season, but their lack of a big man has caught up to them. Clemson was a stellar team that just never lived up to their potential and had their typical late season collapse.. i mean if Clemson won the 2 OT games they played with UNC, the two teams would have tied in the standings3/23/2008 9:24:34 AM |

Not even close, the ACC was terrible this year, there was a grand total of one good team, three fatally flawed teams, and then a slew of teams ranging from mediocre with potential (Wake) to complete shit (BC and Wake).3/23/2008 10:36:10 AM |
