what browser are you using? not that i think it matters...just figured if you were trying on firefox you could try on IE and see if it works, or viceversa 3/24/2008 11:45:56 AM |

I can't imagine the Help Desk wouldn't have tried this, but just in case...
Have you cleared your browser cache? Made sure your hosts file isn't compromised? Spyware/virus scan? 3/24/2008 3:00:53 PM |

i'll give that a try, but everything else about my computer seems to be fine. I could use my wireless at home fine this past weekend.
the help desk guy was saying i was getting a good IP, but it wouldn't ping anything. not sure what that means either. guess i'll just go to comtech like they suggested.3/24/2008 3:10:36 PM |

There's not really anything special about NCSU's setup, once you have the IP address.
I'm sure you've tried just refreshing the web browser page?
And try maybe going directly to nomad.ncsu.edu once you're on the wireless. 3/25/2008 12:14:53 AM |

To hell with the help desk. When I had a problem that I can't fix last year, they were of absolutely no help. Just FAQ sheets. and when I told her I know the simple sheet and I needed actually help, I was referred to a manager who assured me that there was some form of miscommunication. But still offered me no help. 3/27/2008 6:24:01 AM |

^ As someone that occasionally answers the phone for 515-HELP, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get the help you needed. Please don't consider one incident to be reflective of the standard of support that we normally provide. 3/27/2008 3:40:19 PM |

considering you mentioned the gender of the person you were talking to
i think i know who you were talking to
and all i can say is "i'm sorry" - that person is a complete idiot.3/31/2008 9:51:59 PM |

oh, and, also - as far as your problem, casummer - try a different browser (firefox, etc.)
try pinging something like google.com and see if it actually resolves once you authenticate - then you'll know if it's a configuration problem or a browser problem.
if none of that works, send email to help@ncsu.edu detailing your problem, and ask them to get the network guys to manually add your NIC's MAC address to nomad's CCA auth table. yes, they can do this. 3/31/2008 9:54:50 PM |
