I can't watch movies on itunes without it slowing down and getting jumpy. My desktop is old, but i've never had a problem with videos in the past. I just recently reformatted and removed all the crap i don't use anymore but even a clean install of xp doesn't help.
I have a a 2.4GHz p4 with 1GB of RAM.
What should I do to make my computer run optimally? Should I just get a cheap desktop? I just bought a laptop, so I could only afford a few hundred dollars for a desktop. 3/24/2008 8:01:15 PM |

iTunes shouldn't tax that machine with a fresh XP install. There is either software on your computer that you're not aware of eating up resources or you have a fucked up XP install. You're not streaming movies are you... or using other applications in the background? 3/24/2008 10:14:59 PM |

What resolution video are you trying to play? If it's 720/1080 it could easily get jumpy with those specs. Although i'm not up to date on itunes, so i don't know what resolution videos they have. 3/24/2008 10:26:02 PM |

I didn't think about high-def content. 1080i/p could potentially be jumpy depending on what the background programs are running. 3/24/2008 11:30:42 PM |

Doesn't itunes now sell non-protected music? I doubt they do with the movies, but i remember seeing something about the music. If you pay like .10$ extra you can get the non-protected ones. 3/27/2008 10:34:16 PM |

dude, you need a video card with hardware h264 support.
get one, the jumpy video will go away and you will be happy. RAM doesn't do a goddamn thing for video decompression 3/28/2008 12:50:56 AM |

Have you explored the option that maybe your heatsink is full of dust, thus getting your cpu really hot and throttling itself down after the 20-30 min of decoding itunes videos? Just a thought before you spent money on a new graphics card.
Also what type of graphics card does your mobo support? agp or pci-e Price Range? ~$100
