Those are some seriously crappy reasons to get a pet. Please don't get one if you aren't willing to be a good owner.3/25/2008 2:17:13 PM |

yeah, uh, that is like 1 of 3 things goats are for (the other 2 being meat and milk)...

I just don't want her to get one without really knowing anything about them. That's really what I meant. So it's not that those are bad reasons, but if that is all she knows about them maybe she needs to do some research first so she isn't surprised at the amount they poop or whatever. List any of the reasons people get animals and then decide they don't want them anymore ... 3/25/2008 3:29:37 PM |

well i agree that you should know more about what you're getting into, but that's not what you said the first time around. or at least that is not how it came off.
anyway, anybody have experience with goats and green brier? that presentation had some data on green brier but i had been told before that they wouldn't eat it.

a pair of work gloves, loppers, weed wacker and other tools might be cheaper and more sensible.
or you can hire a landscaper (such as my husband) to come over with his chainsaw and the above tools and clear the area out...
goats are fun but aren't as easy to keep as you may think 3/25/2008 3:34:59 PM |

^^^we have an area around maybe 6-7 acres(?) of nothing but brier so thick you can't walk through. my bf (Fumbler), my dad, and my brother have tried to work on it but they're not making much progress. fumbler and i want to burn it but dad is opposed.
we've been using chainsaws, monster weedeaters, and a tractor with a bush hog thingamabob on it.

no way...goats are cheap, and when you're done with them, you slice them open and eat them
seriously, not a problem...i've butchered larger animals before, i seriously doubt a goat is any different 3/25/2008 3:50:50 PM |
