I want to carpool to work, but can't seem to find a good way to find people on a similar schedule and location as myself. My neighbors mainly work in RTP and my firm is fairly small and no one leaves in my area.

I live in Cary and work in Downtown raleigh on an m-f 8-5 schedule. I've been trying to find someone through gotriangle.org but nothing has turned up.

I've explored public transportation, but it will add an hour onto my daily commute and the cost of a monthly bus pass is a few dollars more than what I pay for gas in a month, so while it may be more "green" its not economical.

If you're interested in carpooling shoot me an e-mail, austingd@gmail.com, no PMs.

Also, if you're already in a carpool, are there any resources for finding a carpool other than gotriangle.org in this area?

Don't post your email, this is Tdub. You'll be getting more gay porn and ipod nano offers than you'd ever want to see.

The Monorail is opening in May, you should look it up.

^ Do you have any information on this. According to articles I found in the N&O the only plan for a regional rail system won't be completed until 2020.

You sure its this May and not 12 years from now? The absence of construction for a raised rail system leaves me a little skeptical of a monorail opening in May of this year.

i've been trying to use public transportation more lately. here's my rambling

just this weekend, i went to raleigh to visit my brother. i took the bus from my house to the train station downtown ($0.91), and took amtrak from greensboro to raleigh and back ($28.00), and took the bus back home ($0.91). so i saved like 20 bucks in gas, and i got to relax instead of drive. i also take the bus to work occasionally. for me, it's cheaper than driving (especially the train), and it doesn't add much time to the commute. the only downside is not having a car right there in case something comes up.

from my house to my job and back is a 24mi round trip. let's just assume i get 24mpg in the city, so i burn a gallon ($3.39) per day. in march, there were 20 business days... so that's about 68 bucks in gas per month, and that's gotta be a lowball estimate, because i spend about 40 a week.

here in greensboro, the GTA has all kinds of multi-use passes. i always keep an 11 ride pass on me, and that was 10 bucks. i'm pretty sure the one month round trip pass is $40/month.

the buses here run every half hour, and i have a stop through the trees about 100yd from my house, and one about 100yd from work. maybe i'm lucky? how far is it for you? do you know the prices? not trying to talk shit, i'm just wondering. i'd look into it, even if not every day... cause it's kinda nice to chill on the way to and from work.

Eew, I wouldn't ride the GTA, the creepiest people are always at the bus stops. I had an eco-minded coworker once who tried to get me to carpool but it's too restrictive... what if you need to leave early or work late, or there's an emergency and you have to leave right away? Or if you need to stop for something on the way home?
