im almost sure its 6.75 or whatever the normal sales tax is. theres something like a quarter per liter excise tax that the wholesalers or whoever pay

for a 7.99 six pack of beer the sales tax was .56

so 7%

So what you're saying is that you got taxed at 13.5% on a single bottle of wine? That shouldn't ever happen unless the register system is fubared...

All I bought was wine. The subtotal came to $79.30 then there was a $5.35 alcohol tax added to that plus a $5.35 state tax added to that so my total came to $90.00 even. ??

isn't one of the the alcohol tax and the other just the regular state sales tax? maybe?

Is it possibly a city tax? I haven't lived in NC for 3 years, but I don't remember being taxed twice on wine-though I never bought in in Cary. I'm thinking you had to pay State tax and city tax, just a guess though.

I live in CO now and you have to pay city and state tax at some liquor stores but not all of them. Some are outside of city limits and are exempt from city tax.

Don't worry about it... just a tax for people with poor taste in wine.

the black mountain pinot noir is really good for $5.99

and anyone who doesn't think Charles Shaw isn't one of the best cheap wines out there is crazy

their merlot and cabernet sauvignon beats a lot of $10+ wines I've bought

dmbnpj -- have you called them and asked? i'm sure the manager would either confirm the error, or explain the tax.

If they want to drink Merlot, we're drinking Merlot.
No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!

I've had two and found them very underwhelming. They aren't horrible but it is like eating Hydrox cookies instead of Oreos. You can get some killer wine for just $10.

Quaffable, but uh...far from transcendent.
