Decided to go for a drive to Wilmington, and one of the rods broke off. Sucked because I love the convertible, and I'm not a big mustang fan. I was getting 29 mpg from my v6, that's pretty hot to me.

Anyone know where I can find a reasonable replacement motor? I've scanned ebay and craigslist and started bidding.

I'm going to do all the work, so it's going to be tons of fun.

i would imagine it would be fun if you were rebuilding it.

i mean i guess it would be fun to swap motors if you werent in a rush.

its a 1994..

My dad has a garage (lift, motor lift, and tons of tools)

I'm thinking of doing just doing an engine swap so it can get back on the road asap.

Looks like I might be doing an engine rebuild...

engines are 1500-2500....used engines want 500 bucks when they have 150k miles on them..

I have a company owned VW bug....

I look like I'm going to take off the oil pan...but I'm not sure if the lifters are not getting oiled.

Talked to a mechanic friend, said I should try to get the oil pan out and clean the engine with some carb cleaner (1-2 gallons). He said try it...and let it sit for about two days.

The engine will crank, but a "tinking" noise is heard. The engine is starved for oil. The sludge in the engine appears to have gotten the best of it....

Anyways...I'm going to try the cleaning technique, and pray it works. If not, I'm still going to need an engine.
