i watched Letterman for the first time in its entirety last night and it wasn't so bad. I think the only reason I watch Leno instead is because it's preceeds Conan, which is AWESOME every night for the most part.
.

i'm considering switching from Leno/Conan to Letterman/Conan, but it's too much hassle to switch channels. +plus, Leno is more consistant though.

i reached a quaqmire fagmire.

I'm a much bigger fan of Letterman. He always seems real laid back and the show just flows naturally while I think Leno sometimes tries to hard.

jimmy kimmel is funny with is sarah silverman. his show kinda sucks. it's just a step better than the guy that comes on after Conan. carson daly. and I believe carson daly should be shot and killed. he's tremendously "UNFUNNY".

Leno is comedy for the masses. or as I like to call it comedy for the dumbasses. I can't imagine anyone with an iq over 100 enjoying Leno's humor.

that's the main difference i noticed too. letterman/NYC and leno/LA. conan/NYC and I forget the guy after letterman that competes with conan. but Conan to me is the funniest guy on television. i'm a big fan of the string dance.

i think leno has consistently more interesting guests though. i think that's what gives Leno the edge.

I think Letterman is better than Leno.

Leno has some good segments, like Headlines, but overall Letterman is way better.

I haven't watched either in forever though. Last time I watched i was saddened to hear that rupert's deli had closed.

How the freak do they close one of the most famous deli's in NYC?

Could not agree more. Even when his guests suck on a particular night, his show is still awesome regardless.

I think conan is overrated too, his intros just suck, all he does is say random shit to the audience and two line jokes that you can tell he didn't write himself

Growing up it was Carson and Letterman. I really liked early on Letterman and had to watch Carson(legend)
And I hated leno when he took over. But nowadays I find Leno better and Letterman doing the same stupid shit he was doing 20+ years ago.

I do like Craig Ferguson and Conan is good.

I've found both Leno and Letterman to be a bit weak, with Letterman winning out because his presentation isn't so generalized and one-size-fits all as is Leno's. That is, you could replace Leno with a robot and the jokes would be just as funny, but with Letterman replaced, you'd actually miss something. Conan owns them both though. I remember this one Conan show where he had some no-name comic on, whose routine/character sucked and seemed to rely heavily on high-energy antics. It was clear to anyone watching that this guy wasn't funny, but he wouldn't shut up and he kept getting up and walking around. Conan kept trying to salvage any momentum and keep the show going, but was clearly frustrated with his idiot guest. Just watching Conan trying to put a lid on the guy made it totally worth it. I've never Dave or Jay be as dynamic.

but isn't that like a compliment to good writers. +plus he did well after he was a strike-breaker.

and AGREED Conan pretty much rocks every night.

i haven't watched Conan for years (or any latenight TV, except for The Daily Show and Colbert, for that matter), but when I did, i have to agree that if you had seen one, you had seen them all - at least as far as his opening sketches.
From memory, here's how it would go:
Conan comes out and jumps to place. Flips his hair a bit. Says "Hey, we've got a GREAT show tonight, seriously", then cocks his eye at the camera and whispers behind his hand "because every other night suuucks". Then he has one or two decent jokes, then he makes a bunch of bad jokes, then jokes about how bad the show is. Then he says something aobut how good tonight's show is, then he makes another joke about how bad every other night is. Then he jokes that nobody is watching, then he jokes that only old people are watching.

I think that about covers it. Is it still like that? If so, i'm not going to bother watching again, even though his other sketches and interviews are above par.

I don't like latenight shows, but when I watch them I watch Leno.

Mostly for the Headlines on Monday's show and occasionally he'll have some good gimmicks during other shows.

I can't fucking stand Letterman, Paul Schafer annoys me and I really hate those Top 10 lists.

This is TWW I understand, but for you guys to debate whether Letterman is highbrow and call Leno watchers dumbasses, this is all laughable. I know you're going to attack what somebody watches, but this shit on getting an opinion confused with anything else is plain fucking old. Use the internet responsibly...

Usually just for background while I'm working,

Letterman 11:35-12:05ish
Kimmel 12:05ish-12:35
Conan 12:35-1:35
That guy after Conan till 2pm
Then the poker show, or maybe listen to Coast to Coast Am for kicks.

I like this schedule because I get the monologue and goofy stuff at the beginning of Letterman then the much better (IMHO) monologue of Kimmel, plus cousin Sal stuff which is killer. And Conan is well, Conan.
