I have one of those guns and I'm willing to shoot you with it. I was not aware that there was a real game you could play with them.

Online is probably your best bet, I dont know what site is the best right now since i havent bought and airsoft gun in a few years. How much you'll pay really depends on what you want. A decent gas blow back pistol will run in the neighborhood of $100, a name brand aeg rifle will be approx $300 (this can vary widely though). There are some chinese clones out now that run about half the price of the name brand aegs. Ive heard that some are *decent* but I dont have any firsthand experience with them.

If you find a place within an hour to play, let me know. I will totally take on people.

google WarGame Shop. n/m
http://www.wgcshop.com/

It is a Japaneese company that I get my stuff from.
I have owned a number of guns, and currently use a full metal MP5 with upgraded internals and battery. 350fps, 12 shots/s, .25gram bbs

Check out: they are the same site.
http://www.c-r-a-s-h.org
http://www.1stnc.org

I played on the Crash team for 4 years, and travelled all over the east coast with them. They have a member here in raleigh who used to host games every other weekend in his back yard (3+ acres).
I haven't played with them in about 3 years, as I moved away, and got too busy.

I know a guy who has an airsoft MP5 and my ex roommate had a Desert Eagle. That's just about all I can contribute to this conversation.

My favorite airsoft game is "Run Into the Bathroom and Shoot Steve While He's Taking a Dump."

Steve isn't my roommate anymore so it's actually much more challenging now.

our games consisted mostly of one team on the defensive, located in one area. the other would approach and try to take out the other team.... but usually when the game got going good, everyone would fan out and it became our own little Viet-nam.

then again we played with spring guns, which adds another challenge. (fyi: spring guns have to be manually cocked each time its fired)

it's hard to tell if you've been hit unless you're wearing somewhat tight stuff, they are pretty accurate though

some of the higher end guns can shoot 350-500 fps (that ive seen).

spring guns average 200fps.... sting with a t-shirt.

had a friend with a gas operated SELECT FIRE desert eagle, he had his gf shoot him, and it made a nasty mark on his leg. something like 350fps, and on full auto was like 10+ rds/sec (iirc).

airsoft guns use 6mm plastiv bbs. These range in weight from .1 to .3 grams generally.
The lighter the bb, the faster it shoots, but looses accuracy.

BBs are cheap, $100 for 75,000 if you combine them with an order from japan.

Guns fall into 3 categories. Just a ball park idea of what's going on:

Spring:
-these guns are the suck.
-they are single action and have to be cocked each time
-lower powered, lowered accuracy

Electric:
-these guns use a battery to power a motor, which runs a gear box, which operates a spring
-these are semi-automatic or fully automatic with capacity from 30-1000 rounds
-easily upgraded
-most common in games and teams.

Gas:
-run off of compressed air, propane, or 'green' gas
-very rapid rate of fire, and very quiet
-most pistols are this category
-less reliable than electric in the automatic rifle category

What game? I just want to play kill the other team game. Or capture the flag. Or free-for-all. Or the one-man hunt.

You can get a very decent rifle these days for about 150 bucks and a good pistol for about 50 bucks.

Still haven't found an established group or location to do this round here.

so how do you "play"?

i know what a gun and ammo looks like.

so if you get hit, do you just man up and walk off the field? kinda like paintball?

im lost

Yeah, people are pretty much on the honor system to admit they got hit. We played that 3 body shots or 1 head shot is a kill. When we knew we were killed we just put our hands in the air and walked back to our base to "respawn". I've heard of other guys just dropping to the ground and staying there after getting hit, as if they were dead. It's whatever rules you want to have really. If somebody never admits to getting shot you just come to know that they're full of shit. When you get hit it feels like somebody flicked you or you got stung by the tiniest bee in the world. If it 'hurt' any less you probably wouldn't feel it at all.

How much it hurts depends on the range.
The team I was on played in two double wide trailers stuck end to end with a 6'' bridge between them. When you are 10'' apart, shooting 350fps with heavy bbs, it hurts a good bit, and will leave welts.
Our minimum distance was one foot. Our max distance was as far as you could shoot. One of the guys that was on the team had a rifle that shot 650+ fps, and was used as a sniper rifle.

yeah you'd need something for your eyes, but that's it really, unless you're really paranoid about your ears...

the velocity drops a lot the farther away it is....

(yeah paintball does not have the not feeling it problem (unless it hits your gun or shoe)

shooting or safety glasses are the only required safety gear.
A lot of people wear paintball masks.

With paintball, if you don't feel it, the ball didn't break, so it doesn't count.
Airsoft uses the honor system, and the call system. You see someone hit, you tell them.

If anyone sees a Tokyo Marui MP5 (~$250 value) on raleigh.craigslist.org or ebay or any local classifieds being sold, please let me know (PM me). My house was robbed a few weeks ago. The thugs were caught, and most items were returned, but the gun was never recovered. The loser told police he sold it to someone else.

If it's sold, it won't be sold with any chargers or anything. The stupid wangsta didn't even steal the charger or bb's. Just the gun with the clip and battery.

^ Check out http://www.ncairsoft.org and/or the crash/1stNC website above.

NC Airsoft will list games and fields all around the state, including big games which are generally worth the drive to attend. I haven't lived in Raleigh for nearly 2 years now so Im not really sure what fields are still up and running in the area. I used to play at a guy's place just inside the beltline that would host games every other weekend but my understanding is that the land isnt available anymore. I also used to play from time to time with a big group of guys from Epic games. They used a stand of forest out near rolesville.

I've only had the police drop by on two occasions and neither was negative. One was just curious about what we were doing and the other was looking for a missing child.

If I move back to the area over the summer as planned, I'll probably host some games at my family's farm in Johnston county. The woods are a bit dense to really have a good game in but there is plenty of land and the barn makes a good shoothouse.

Up around falls lake theres a LOT of wooded spaces that are owned by the army core of engineers.

One of my buddies has an airsoft armory of Mauri's that we take out there... lots of fun... definitely wear eye protection... we usually roll with 4 on 4, which is enough people to make it interesting, but games go quick enough that you can switch it up nice and fast...

theres a WORLD of difference between the $25 mp5 I own and the $250 mauri mp5...

Played today with Eulogist. Had a good time and will be going out again next week.

I got home and had something in my knee. I couldn't pull it out myself, so my GF got out the tweezers and yanked on it. A thorn was sunk over 1/4'' deep into my knee.

My girlfriend have been wanting to get into this recently - any suggestions for a good start pistol? I think the "amateurs" of the group who we'll be playing with all have spring-loaded pistols, while there is an experienced group with more 'nasty' weapons.
