anyone been out there recenty? just trying to feel how it's going to be and what truck i need to take. gf's disco, does fine but everages me a slap on the arm or a scream in my ear every 2 minutes. every jolt from hitting a rut wall or the buzzing/engaging of her diff split THE WHOLE CAR IS FALLING APART.

if it's rained a bit recently, i won't hesistate to shoot in there with the c2500. tires are more than wide enough, decent tread for excavating the sand and adequate ground clearance. oh, and big block powR! i absolutely HATE being that guy stuck up to his axles in a 2wd, but it happens. knock on wood, i've always been successfull in 2wd as long as i know the last weeks weather. Once your out threre, be smart and you can stick to well paved routes no problem. it's only back in behind the dunes at corolla that you "need" 4wd.

sooo.... seems i heard a couple of people here talking about doing some surf fishing recently. or not?

ok, well screw it i'm going for sure. trailering the yarrrcharger probably. dually got the nod for a seccond, then i remembered $4 a gallon and 10klbs. on skinny dually wheels, durr. the front end wanted to do a disappearing act/plow along. something a liitle wider than stock up front would help.

if anyone else wants in on the trailer or trip in general speak fast. departure should be 10am at the latest! make movies if you plan to ride in the suburban. it'll play any illegal/ripped, i mean, legal backup of what you already own. or, meet down there later. definitely staying tonight, possibly sunday night also. plan for some good eatz at least one night.

it's been windy as fuck, high surf, and we've had some heavy rain in the past week or so.

^yeah, i figured it must have. the sand was the easiest i've been on in a long time. ended up towing a 4wd down for the hell of it, but we could have hit the main spots in a 2wd no problem. the weather was perfect today.

anyone know what happened to all the cypress stumps up north? saw a couple here and there, but nothing like there used to be. it didn't look like the beach was any more built up to cover them. did they get pulled up?

it's been 3 years since I've seen many/any stumps up there, and I've been up there fairly regularly the past 2-3 summers.

I went to the race shop years ago. The old one, in kdh. before monster truck racing was big, and dennis still owned the team.

It is amazing how much you get around with all the health problems. It seems everytime I click a thread in here you are going somewhere else. I'd think most people in your situation would be lazy and not do anything.

^^^^^man, if i didn't get out and do stuff i'd have lost what little bit of sanity i have left a long time ago. i've always loved traveling/road trips as much as anything and can't stand to sit around for too long. plus, anyone that knows me can vouch that i'm a stubborn asshole that will do things i shouldn't be able to do just out of spite.

^^^no, some retarded judge issued a ban months ago but the local officials ignored it because he didn't have the authority to enforce it. as of right now, everything that's normally open still is.

yeah, like ^^ said they'll never be able to close access north of corolla. they could pave it i guess, but even that would be years off and i don't think the owners/residents up there would go for it. there also won't ever be any access from the north because of the protected area at the nc/va line.

the case to ban the other areas was continued until this past friday, but i haven't really heard any details of it. supposedly the groups involved have reached a settlement, but they haven't released anything yet.

granted, it was only a few areas (1/3 of the currently accessible land) and not a total ban. still completely unwarranted though, and it would be a devastating blow to the local economy. the current alligator river program which includes the large pea island refuge on hatteras is more than adequate.

updated STUMP report

For the first 3 miles or so in Carova there are a good number of stumps seen even at high tide. Mainly around the area where those two fucking houses stick out really far. I only went up about 5 miles yesterday and it was much more clear up in that area, but I guarantee the stumps will catch a few people out this summer.

And tourists are fucking morons and lack any kind of etiquite when driving on the beach when it's narrow or trucks are coming at them from the other direction and they have tons of room to their right but if I go right I'm in the fucking ocean.

i didn't see ANY when i was up there a couple of months ago. i was very surprised, i've seen the beach built up some years and they're low but never completely covered. i'm thinking that they've started removing them, or at least the more dangerous ones. too much of an increase in traffic that risks multiple pwrstmpdf250's.
