and whats your salary range and industry?
Since most people in this section are recently graduated (or still in school) we'll use the following ranges:
very low: $0-$25,000 low: $25,001- $40,000 medium: $40,001- $55,000 high: $55,001 - $70,000 very high: $70,001+
I tried to use average salary data for Raleigh as a guide for these ranges. Sorry if you don't agree with them ] 4/18/2008 11:45:58 AM |

1/2 to 2/3 of the way into the "low" category.
[But because of some favorable circumstances, I save > 75%, so my salary would be equivalent to a US salary of perhaps 75+K]
Dress shirts and trousers.
But I might just switch to jeans and decent plain full-sleeve t-shirts. like I did halfway through last academic year! 4/18/2008 2:48:06 PM |

Button-down or polo, usually but not always tucked in, slacks/khakis/jeans depending on my mood. There isn't a "dress code" per se but I think too casual (t-shirt, shorts, anything with holes, sandals) would get me spoken to. 4/18/2008 5:10:11 PM |

button down and khakis or slacks occasionally a tie when feeling like it jeans on friday (no holes or frays though)
very high
for what it's worth though, my group used to be located the floor directly below the ceo.
at that time, it was jacket and tie, 5 days a week. if you got up and left your office, you were required to put on your jacket (even to go piss or go get lunch)
glad it's not now!
(although if im on site, and know i'll be going into the plant areas a lot ill drop down to jeans and a button up.)

When I was working, I was in the low range. I could wear whatever I wanted to wear, but I usually stuck to kid friendly and comfortable jeans, a fitted shirt, and sneakers.
My husband's salary depends on how the precinct is performing due to bonuses. When business is bad, medium. When business is good, high. He wears standard issue Geek Squad: black shoes, white shocks, high water black pants, white shirt, black clip on tie, and badge. Unless he's the manager on duty and then he wears dress pants, button up shirt, and tie. 4/19/2008 7:52:33 PM |

slacks, dress shirt, tie. We get the occasional business casual day once a week or so. A jeans day once a month. I like dressing down but its cheesy to get that as some sort of reward like we do at my office. I'd rather they just say, "OK, no clients this week, go casual". 4/19/2008 8:44:27 PM |

high: a dress shirt and a pair of khakis supplemented with a fleece with no casual days.
However, when I was working at the old site in the Midwest for the same type of position, it was just polo and khakis with jeans on Fridays. I think they're more relaxed out there than back here on the East Coast. 4/19/2008 11:05:59 PM |

For what it's worth.. I used to wear t shirt/jeans everyday when I did IT work. I'm in sales now though and have to dress up. Like I said earlier, I like to dress up and honestly it's as comfortable if not more so.
And as far as my salary goes...I took a cut in pay for the experience. The people I'm working for now are all worth over $10M and I'm learning an incredible amount everyday. The only person technically above me makes well into 6 figures and he's only expected to be there another two years at most so I'll be taking his place.
I have to admit that it sucks dick right now but hopefully in the longterm it's worth it.. 4/20/2008 3:21:53 AM |
