"All Muck is Local: Sex and Lots and Lots of Videotape
By Lila Shapiro - April 13, 2008, 12:07PM
For days, Bruce Barclay's political career hung in the balance. The Republican commissioner of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, had been accused of rape -- by a man, no less -- and the police were bearing down. Barclay's lawyer issued a strong denial ("This accusation of rape is ludicrous It will be defended forever and is wrong."). But it was clear things were looking pretty dicey. Until... vindication! Well, sort of.

On March 31st, police, investigating the allegation of rape by the 20-year old Marshall McCurdy, obtained a warrant to search Barclay's home. They didn't find evidence of rape. But they did find videotapes of hundreds of sexual encounters with men that Barclay had filmed on high-tech surveillance cameras. The cameras were hidden inside AM/FM radios, motion detectors and intercom speaker systems, among other places. There was also one at his business office.

None of the subjects were aware they were being filmed and no permission had been obtained, Barclay admitted. According to a second warrant issued on April 9th, Barclay also admitted to hiring prostitutes on a weekly basis from the now-defunct website harrisburgfratboys.com.

On April 10th, the rape charges were dropped. One of the videos found during the search showed Barclay and McCurdy engaging in apparently consensual sex. As his lawyer put it:

"It is clear in my client's private life he has made an error of judgment. What is striking is this very same lack of judgment exonerates him from a rape allegation that wasn't going anywhere."
Sadly, his vindication was his undoing. Barclay was forced to resign.

And legally, Barclay's not quite out of the woods yet-- he's still facing possible charges for privacy violations and promoting prostitution. McCurdy, however, has been charged with making false reports to law enforcement authorities and unsworn falsifications to authorities. He's up for a possible 3-year prison stint and $7,500 in fines.

" "I was meeting with him so y'all to expose him to the world and to those parents sending their kids up there," the mother told us.

Because days earlier, she says Jordan had offered to waive his school's enrollment fee in exchange for sex. It all happened in a graphic conversation that unfortunately for Mr. Jordan was recorded for us all to hear.

Jordan: "Excuse me and I don't mean to be so blunt but I am talking about f------ you."

Mother: "You talking about what?"

Jordan: "F------ you."

Jordan: "For the $300 I would expect maybe we could get together several times, you think?"

Mother: "Several times, whatcha mean several times?"

Jordan: "Well I don't know, you might like whatcha getting."

........

Jordan: "I know a place where we can go and I could...you know, it wouldn't take long for me to actually just play with you for a while, you know, without getting a room or what."

Jordan's idea of a romantic getaway spot -- a shopping center parking lot.

Jordan: "I'd sure like to see whatcha got."

Mother: "I'm not going to do it in no parking lot."

Jordan: "Not if I turn....like there's nothing in that truck right there."

At our mother's suggestion, they head instead to a motel, but Jordan clearly doesn't want to get a room.

Jordan: "You talking about around back or what?"

When our mother offers to get the room, Jordan now says all he really wanted to do was play around a little. Not go all the way, because the Bible said it was a sin.

Jordan: "Honestly, if I were just totally in my flesh, I would be in that room on you in a hurry." "

The commissioner of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania?

Holy shit this is high up!

Why don't you just create a new thread every time someone who is or was registered as a republican is arrested? The Soap Box clearly doesn't have enough bullshit threads.

^^ OMG scandalous!!! And he might be a republican, too! Scandalous^2!!!

it only newsworthy because the entire foundation of their political platform is moral superiority, personal character, and religiosity.

I understand the hypocrisy when it comes to anti-gay Republican lawmakers being exposed as closet homos.

However, we're talking about the Commissioner of Cumberland County, PA. I've never heard of the guy, and I didn't even know there was a Cumberland County in PA. Who gives a fuck? I just don't think it's threadworthy, thats all.

JoeSchmoe

So, the "entire foundation" of the Democrats political platform is moral inferiority, lack of personal character, and anti-religiosity (not meaning religiosity in the excessive context)? Are you really saying this?

^ Yes, now you have it. If it's fair to view the Republicans in the extreme, then it's fair to view the Democrats in the extreme. It's not so much fun when the tables are turned, is it?

The main difference, hooksaw, is that republicans make moral integrity, religion, etc. a cornerstone of their platform. Democrats, for the most part, do not. This is not to say that democrats cannot be religious or moral, it just makes it funnier when a republican gets caught in a gay orgy.

your statement is false. moral integrity and religion are huge parts of both. republicans are typically more old testament while democrats are more new testament...if you can accept the analogy.

its disgusting when either a Republican or a Dem gets caught doing this shit. they all represent us and should be held to a higher moral standard. its even more disgusting to see people from either side using shit like this to incriminate entire parties and their beliefs...con or lib.

Is that why you created a special thread for Democrats who get in trouble?

not at all.

the foundation of the Repubs, as having been hijacked by the christian right, is the smug and self-righteous parading around in the guise of holier-than-thou moralizers, taking on all important issues about witches and lesbians, faggots getting married, pretending abstinence prevents pregnancies and STDs, and getting whipped into a salivating frenzy about excluding mainstream scientific theories from being taught in school.

whereas the issues for Dems tend to be jobs, economy, environment, social services, national infrastructure, personal freedoms, civil rights, and how to balance all these concerns while sustaining a pluralistic society.

unfortunately for the Dems, no one gives a fuck about these issues. the rabid punditry wants to talk only about the juicy tabloid headline grabbers that will boost their ratings via the fatass trailerpark demographic who alternate between Faux News and Maury Povich and trips to the fridge.
