I know this may be a typically american attitude, but I think rickshaws are the most insultingly dehumanizing professions ever, right beside prostitution. You're literally walking/pedaling so some other lardass doesn't have to. You're like a modern day big house slave. 4/18/2008 6:03:13 PM |

Not trying to promote or anything, but what he is saying about the $100-300 in a night, it's true. I have a friend that actively does this for amusement some nights. He likes meeting random people and he really does bank that in a night if it's busy. 4/19/2008 11:00:50 PM |

I totally almost rickshawjacked a dude in key west whilst drunk and pillaging duvall street, but I was really holding out for an orange scooter so I could go around singing "don't steal my sunshine"
it seemed like a much more entertaining idea than a taxi 4/20/2008 11:35:12 AM |

I've thought about taking a ride on one of these up here in NYC, but they cost more than a taxi. Someone please tell me why the fuck I'd pick one of these over a taxi, lol. 4/20/2008 2:46:11 PM |

from the website it looks like Raleigh Rickshaw charges whatever you want to pay ... like tips only
probably less than a taxi! 4/20/2008 5:55:42 PM |

I don't care for that policy. I think it guilts people into paying MORE than they think it's worth so they won't be thought of as cheap. Charge a dang standard rate and let tips be extra. 4/20/2008 9:23:43 PM |

It costs more because it requires more effort.
I use to always get drunk in downtown Charleston and call the rickshaw instead of a cab. I guess it just seemed more fun to me when I was drunk. Girls seemed to like it too.
Will also add that they do make pretty good money...at least in Charleston. If I didn't bartend, the next job I would take is a Rickshaw job. They get paid and laid quite frequently. The stories I hear from the Rickshaw guys are fucking ridiculous.

I used one the last time that I was in Charleston. The driver was a girl and was bitching about having to pedal up one of the "hills" down there, which maybe had a 1% grade. I told her that she wouldn't make it on Glenwood.
My best experience with the ones in Raleigh was four of us pooling our money, splitting up into two rickshaws and telling both drivers that whoever got there first would get $50 and the loser would get nothing. It ended up being a full contact competition with passengers leaning over the sides and hitting each other. 4/22/2008 3:59:03 PM |

Was she blonde and at least semi-attractive??? Either way, she should give it up. Those pedicabs are fucking tough. Most of the guys who do it in Charleston are in ridiculous shape.
