Does anyone know who the owner of these shitty ass apartments is and how to get in touch with them? I came home today to my downstairs flooded by the water heater and apparantly the maintenance people left early today so nobody is going to fix it until tomorrow....Fabulous. We have had so many problems in this apartment, the owner needs to know what a shithole it is. Our ceiling has fallen down because they didn't believe me there was a leak in the upstairs bathtub, which took over a week to fix, our toilet upstairs broke and the valve to turn the water off was painted and woudn't turn, again flooding downstairs since there is no emergency maintenance, again took a week to fix, there have been so many roaches, they should have been paying rent, and there is more, but I think thats enough examples....

they're basically slumlords. they buy shitty properties, throw some patchwork repairs on them to make them seem nice (ie new cheap carpet, new cheap white paint, new cheap washer/dryer/dishwasher and vinyl tile floors), and do whatever they can to ignore their residents. the office whores aren't 'property managers' in any sense of the word - their sole purpose is to get people to sign leases and keep a list of problems for their understaffed maintainence dept to never get to. they won't pay money to fix anything right.

we got duped into renting at gorman crossings like 3 years ago. the rent on a 2 br townhome was only like 550 then though, and we thought - hey what a steal. at one point, a problem with the a/c condensate drain was causing a severe mold problem in our unit. first they thought it was the pan, and just shoved a bunch of silicone caulk in it. when i told the guy the condensate needs to drain DOWNHILL, he ignored me, then 2 weeks later he put a condensate pump on it so it would flow upwards.

when we checked out apartments, we were shown a model which we were told would be identical to our apartment (new appliances and all). when we moved in, the appliances in it were 15+ yrs old and when asked about this discrepancy, the chick in the office responded "well we never told you it would have new appliances" which was a complete lie. we informed the owner that (a) our lease signing was conditional on our apartment being indentical to the model and that they were basically in breach of contract, and (b) we weren't stupid enough to fall for their bait & switch crap, and that this practice is illegal under consumer protection laws. we had new appliances that afternoon. 1 yr later we got the hell out of there.

we got lucky that one of the owners was there that day. if i were you, i would talk to a lawyer or at least student legal services. whois lookup just turns up the name of their website guy, not their owner. good luck.

btw, i hope you have good health & renters insurance b/c they've revised their lease since i was there to basically say "haha fuck you if our shithole apartments ruin any of your personal belongings or damage your health."

The other huge legal issue we had was their maintenance people coming into our apartment without permission. It kept continuously happening where they would come to "fix" things without our knowledge or let Orkin in without our knowledge. I finally added an extra lock on our door when I came home one day to some Mexican guy standing in my hallway that couldn't explain why he was there. The maintenance manager had no record of anything needing to be fixed here. Then we were away on our honeymoon and they called us complaining they couldn't get in (whereas they did not have permission to anyway) because they were replacing our A/C unit, again something we didn't have knowledge of.

Then, today after our water heater exploded, we realized we didn't have any water in the apartment either. When I told some stupid girl at the office she needed to call someone to come fix it, she told me she couldn't do anything about it and HUNG UP ON ME....
