it is. i just noticed it today. i don't typically drive, because I work from home or I fly out of state. A full tank takes me about 3-4 weeks depending if I'm not on the beach the whole month.
so today I fill up to drive to Fort Lauderdale. GAS WAS $3.96/GALLON for 93/Premium. We're fucked. I couldn't even imagine having to drive everyday and deal with the costs.
That's like another bill. WTF ???? 4/21/2008 6:27:11 PM

in the grand scheme of your yearly expenses, how much of a difference does it make for you

$200, $400?

that's the thing. it's infrequent that i have to drive. for work it can vary from being at home for 2 weeks straight or I may have to go some place odd like Port St. Lucie for a few days, but typically I get a rental car and expense the gas. so i never really had an idea of how expensive it would be if I had to commute to an office everyday for work.
it's totally inefficient to drive in to work everyday. especially with these gas prices. 4/21/2008 6:40:36 PM

A few years ago it was around 1.50. Now it's 3.50. Say it takes 15 gallons to fill up, thats $30 more dollars. On average if you fill up 4 times a month, thats $1,440 more a year.
What really hurts is the inflation gas prices cause on everything else.

well not really $3 but adjusted for inflation. And NC has one of the highest gas taxes so that doesn't help either.

yeah but the thing is that gas itself has a huge effect on what a "2007 dollar" is if it causes inflation, that ain't so good either 4/21/2008 8:50:45 PM

honestly the price of 20 oz mountain dews is making a bigger dent in my quicken pie chart than gas
well i dont spent more on sodas, but the price increase versus how much i buy, thats hurting me more.
i havent changed my standard of living much at all, though (because of this "economic crisis") -- i got rid of some showtimes and i'm about to drop a cell phone line, but thats just an effort i'm making to throw 200 bucks a month extra into my 'personal' (non-matched) IRA now that im off probation and shit] 4/21/2008 10:33:39 PM

I live in one of the Top 5 largest markets in the US and the public transportation system ONLY is useful if you work in the city. A million+ people work outside the city and need to drive. I have no way to get to work other than driving. Plus Californians love there cars...
** Actualy the second largest market has the most craptastic public transport system I've ever seen... LA
