^^I think you mistook simplicity and clean lines with "cheap". The interior of the Volvo has recieved great reviews in all the magazine tests I've read.
I wonder how much boost that engine can handle? I'm pretty sure thats the same engine they used in the S60R that put out 300hp. 4/22/2008 1:33:04 PM |

yes, which is why that's quite ironic he said that lol..
Also shares the same platform as the mazda 3 iirc. 4/22/2008 2:33:22 PM |

Love how the shape of the back glass is a nod to the 1800ES wagons. I am a fan of the styling in general, though I haven't sat in one so I don't know about the interior. It actually wouldn't surprise me if the interior was a little underwhelming...having had the opportunity recently to ride in an '06 S40 and S60 back-to-back, it's amazing how much more upmarket the interior in the S60 feels. The styling and ergonomics are of course similar, but the materials and construction in the S60 just felt much richer. 4/22/2008 2:43:35 PM |

Its actually based on the Focus platform used in Europe, which is the next generation of the one used by the American Focus. Go figure, but Ford decided not to use their new and improved platform for the Americans 4/22/2008 5:40:46 PM |

Might have something to do with the fact that the Focus is positioned higher in the market over there than it is here, since we don't have much of a city car/sub-subcompact market (Ka/Puma/Fiesta, or whatever has come along to replace those...)
Might not though. But as badly as Ford is doing these days, I would hope they would have a good reason for withholding a platform that could gain them quite a few sales stateside. 4/22/2008 5:53:38 PM |

yeah we don't like nimble functional efficient cars here ... i'm still pissed about the mondeo.... that thing is beautiful.... but nnoo its not big and ugly enough to be cool like our fat ugly taurus 4/22/2008 6:15:48 PM |

The girlfriend is thinking about one of these to replace her Volvo 850 Turbo wagon (which replaced her Civic Si).
We saw a European market Focus (I'm sure it was sportier than a base model) at the Nurburgring a few months ago, and was impressed (along w/the 2 other car people we were with) both with the interior and the exterior. Both my friends and the gf/I generally don't like Fords much less any other American car. In comparison, the U.S. market Focus is one of the worst looking vehicles I've come across. ^Six of one, half-dozen of the other? Unless you're being nitpicky about whose engineers did the lion's share of the development (I have no idea). 4/23/2008 1:21:13 AM |
