This is purely an informational thread, so please don't turn it into a huge debate over Hillary & Obama!!!

Ok with that said, Next Friday (May 2) the NC Democratic party is having a huge fundraiser. It's the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. Hillary & Obama have committed to coming, so it could be a good opportunity to see them in person. I cut n paste the info below:

Event Purpose

A Raleigh fundraising event for the Democratic Party. Its one of our largest fundraisers of the year and is a chance to celebrate being a Democrat and support your Party.

Date and Time: Friday, May 2, 2008 - 5:30pm

Event Location

Location Name: J.S. Dorton Arena, located on the NC State Fairgrounds
Street: 1025 Blue Ridge Road.
City: Raleigh
State: North Carolina
Zip Code: 27607

A reception will kick off this year’s event at 5:30 p.m. with dinner following at 7 p.m.

Ticket prices are as follows:
$250 for reception and dinner
$125 per person for dinner
$25 theater seating, dinner not included (Great option for the college students out there)

More info can be found at http://ncdp.org/node/2514

****For all you that just want to have a good time and hang out with some Dems****
(And don't want to spend the money on a ticket to the big event)

JJ After Dark....The Afterparty

Are you ready for a night of fun and excitement? YDNC and the Wake County Young Democrats are hosting JJ After Dark this year at the Clarion Hotel on Hillsborough Street. Just minutes from Dorton Arena, look forward to music, and an upscale event to remember. See you May 2nd at 8:30 p.m. on the penthouse floor of the Clarion.

FYI...I am helping to plan this event, so if you love me and want to support me come on out

We are asking a $10 donation at the door!

Sorry that was long!!! Hopefully I'll see some of you out there

"#26 Grown and Sexy Events
March 31, 2008 · 65 Comments

Educated Black People like attending events with the title “Grown and Sexy.” This is a term that was coined by older club patrons who didn’t want to always feel like the old man/woman in the club and also by Babyface. It also just another way to have an “exclusive” or “upscale” event. EBP love exclusivity.

Usually at these events, there is no rap music and a dress code is in place. There is normally a dress code for the men; no white tees, baseball caps, jeans, or sneakers. Also, the facility may require that all women be over 23 and the men over 25 years old. This is to ensure that creepy old men don’t hit on young, unsuspecting girls and to prevent the usual drama that occurs at regular club events(i.e. fights, training, or strutting). See #1 Fraternities and Sororities. Once again this will be a networking opportunity. However, no business cards will be given out at this event because it would be considered classless or tacky to give out a card at an event such as this because EBP are just out to have a good time. The EBP will just talk about their jobs and education with each other, but nobody actually gets a job from meeting someone at a Grown and Sexy event.

Grown and Sexy events may also have themes such as white linen or wine and cheese. There’s also an unusually high cover charge to keep the hood people out; along with the dress code. EBP don’t mind paying this cover though, but it does cause a small problem for a few- money. Some of the EBP that attend these events are on a budget; they’re still paying off their student loans or saving to buy a town home. Therefore, you may see a guy holding the same drink all night because he has already paid a $30 - $40 cover and $10 or more for the one drink. If you live in a small city or the community of EBP is small, you may also see an EBP wear the same outfit , with slight variations, to every Grown and Sexy event; this is once again the result of budget constraints (ballin’ on a budget).

It is important to note that these events are not held at clubs, unless it is a 25 and over club; the event is usually at a “lounge.” An EBP would not be caught in a club “slummin’ “with the usual clubrats at a “radio party.” An EBP can easily be spotted if at the wrong event. He or she is usually sitting with other EBP scanning the crowd looking for people to talk about or beating the undesirables off with a stick.

If you are invited to a Grown and Sexy event by an EBP, accept the invitation; because this is a privileged invite and you will probably not be asked again if you don’t attend the first time. EBP do not like rejection. It is also a great chance to meet other EBP who share your values - education and exclusivity. Keep it Grown and Sexy!"

i gotta come clean, im biting from "Stuff Black People Like"

^That did make me giggle a little. A lady at work keeps telling me about all these parties, but I never go. Maybe I should break out my linen and hit it up!

Ok back to topic! Come hang out next Friday!!!

What if you spent some of that money on helping the disadvantaged people your party is supposedly so concerned with?

For $250, I could feed quite a few homeless folks and still have money left over to tattoo the word "hippocrite" on a democrat's forehead.

Let me rephrase my question. How do you justify spending tons of money to hear a speech about how poor and disadvantaged most Americans are? You, like many others, obviously have reasons for supporting the event. I would like to understand why.

I'm not trying to justify anything.

It's purely informational, so either come to the event or don't! It's that simple!

I would hope you choose to not show up.

Don't worry, I won't be there. I would just like to understand why people care so much about politics that they spend tons of their own money to help wealthy politicians achieve their own selfish ambitions.

I don't think I'm asking an unreasonable question.

ORLY? I'm not asking why campaigns need money. I'm wondering why people put so much faith into a political organization that they spend tons of money on it, believing it will change the world. Is that really the best way to solve the problems of society? I'm all about thoroughly researching candidates and using the utmost discretion in voting. But why spend tons of money on a political party? I just want an honest answer.

But you also know you're being a troll in The Lounge because OBVIOUSLY none of us are Political Science theorists and could explain this to you. So go read a book about it and stop ruining the thread. I mean, whining about this shit on TWW isn't MORE productive than what you're complaining about.

Fuschia, I wanted an opinion on it from someone who is advocating that people support a political party. I don't care what political scientists have to say. I want to hear from an average person who feels strongly about supporting a party. If you won't attempt to answer me, then please don't reply. This is not chit chat.

Similarly, if you don't have something RELEVANT to say in a Lounge thread, don't post in it.

You knew this thread was in support of something you weren't, and you still decided to troll it.

I wanted to come to this reception, but I was working the Obama rally/Arcade Fire & Superchunk concert for Jim Neal. (since Neal endorsed Obama, we had a lot of support there too). Alot of people campaigning for different positions and several local candidates were there too. It's too bad these two big democratic events in NC weren't spread out just a little more so people could do both.
